How's the PC version?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 9:15 am

So I've been missing Crysis 2 a lot since I got rid of it for my Xbox months ago and I finally have a decent PC for gaming, so I was wondering, how has the game turned out for you guys over here on PC? Any glaring issues? Is lag a factor like on the consoles, have the patches been good?

Thanks,
Alex

Well, yes and no really. We got the DX11 stuff and higher resolution textures, but there are still outstanding bugs like you can read around here.

I still prefer Crysis myself, since it has much more re-playability.

It's an awesome game, the best lookin' one on the planet.
Some folks say it's dead, but it suspect that's cause they ain't playin' it 'the way it's meant to be played'.

Crysis still beats it in some respects, like texture quality, proper sky with volumetric clouds, breakable environment, native AA support, better menu layout, being able to load a level while in game. :)

^crysis 2 has more varied textures though :)

anyway crysis 2 is alright the way it is. major glaring bugs on pc version include: Orbital-strike lag, overlapping menu music, occasional random stat reset and nanosuit reboot.

Bottom line: if you liked on the console, odds are pretty good you'll enjoy it AT LEAST as much as you did on the console. Same game overall, just prettier.

Apparently the reason why there's bad textures is because if they made everything high res they would have required several DVDs to store them on (because C2 has a lot more varied textures)

And pretty much what Original_Nomad said

Some little bugs on the PC version. The biggest problems where caused by the 1.9 patch...

Erm no, it's just an excuse to ship it with low quality textures like the Xbox360 version. There is something called Dual layer DVDs you know and the texture pack was not even 2Gb.

GTA IV is a 20Gb install, so it's no excuse.

Please tell me which GTA 4 you downloaded, mines is only 10gb with all the updates, 14gb with all the DLC, and this GTA4 is the PC version, the consoles version came with two disks, (EOLC), consoles dont have variable textures, which means they have a dumbed downed version, maybe 9gb tops. So Wrath is right , Crysis 2 with Dx11 and high Textures churns out 15.5gb, way to much for a current gen production DVD.

Dual layer DVD's can have upto 9.4 Gb of storage. Shipping 2 dual layer DVDs is not much to ask but because Crysis 2 was shipped like the Xbox360 version, it didn't. UT99 GoTY edition shipped with 2CDs, disk two had 600Mb of high resolution textures.

BTW, GTA IV recommended specs:

Hard Disk Space: 18 GB Free

Srry Wrath I meant Madness was right, I dont think Crysis 2 on PC would have been able to fit. Like I said, on a current gen production DVD. Even in Dx9, it took 10gb.
