I've installed Oblivion before on this computer but I had to reformat because of a virus. Before, I was able to play it fine, had lots of mods and it was fun. I want to play it again so I installed it from the cd and before I installed any patches or any mods whatsoever, I started it up. I made sure the resolution was the same as my desktop, but still it tries to start up and then it crashes before it even gets to the menu screen.

I'm pretty sure it's not a requirements issue, I was able to play it full graphics before the reformat so it should work fine, but it's crashing.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you imported your My Documents folder from your previous install did you try deleting the Oblivion.ini in My Documents>My Games>Oblivion?

Glad to see it worked, yep, that folder includes the configuration settings for the game. It uses your current system specs to generate it and if anything changes about the specs, it will probably not launch.
