Interesting Mod idea

Now... I'm not a developer. However, here's an idea. I've downloaded a variety of mods that adjust the third person view gameplay for fallout. The best so far, that I've seen has been one that centers the character on the screen and allows you to zoom pretty far away and sometimes this actually captures the look of the original games. This is cool... however. With fallout now being a first person shooter (for the most part) you have no idea if you're wearing a disguise. There's this piece of text on the screen that says "you're dressed as an NCR soldier" but... that seems unecessary. Even with these mods, playing the game in first person is a must and it makes the whole concept of customizing the look of your character irrelivant. You can't really see what your character looks like unless you do a VATS kill or roam around a town in third person.

So here's the idea for the mod, if the idea happens to inspire people. Games like Assassins Creed and GTA have the third person gameplay down pat. Would it really be difficult to free the third person camera from always being adjusted to look at your character's back? Sure, right now you can keep a button pressed down and rotate but if you could rotate to not only see around the territory in third person but also rotate to look around your character, I think this would improve the gameplay substantially. I think there'd be a bit more coding invovled because you'd have to tell the game that when the camera (instead of the avatar) is facing an apponent then you should enter into vats and things like that. But feel free to leave feedback.

Would it be difficult to also modify the way your character walks so that he doesn't look like he's ice scating through the wasteland too? I'm just curous.

If you're on the PC, the tcl command will do pretty much what you're after; though you can't move the character and the camera at the same time (okay, not strictly true, but not in an especially useful way).

Well I got the centered screen mod where it already zooms out substantially and centers my character. But the third person gaming experience is found lacking when I'm doing anything but traveling in towns. A first person fallout game seems sad to me... I like some of Bethesda's work with Fallout... but text saying "you're wearing a disguise" doesn't cut it. When NCR are shooting at me and I have no idea why until it's too late, I get frustrated.
