What are the best guns to kill Robo-Scorpions?

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 5:03 am

The vault doesn't mention anything about their health or DT. When I say best guns, I mean literally guns because that's what my character is specialized in.

My first play-through I found my Assault Carbine to be useless, even with Armor Piercing rounds which is -25 DT effect for 5mm. Although my memory may be foggy since it was a while ago, maybe the armor piercing rounds did a good job but I didn't have that many or they performed poorly, I can't remember clearly.

My Survivalist rifle was decent against them, but still struggled to make a dent. I'm contemplating taking the .45 machinegun this time but I'm not sure how it will fair.

If you have Dead Money I would say the Automatic rifle with AP rounds. Otherwise the AMR always gets the job done.

I found that the brush gun worked pretty well as did the ranger sequoia, although I did have the cowboy perk which significantly increased the damage for both weapons. Other than that the A.M. rifle works but it is heavy, and the same goes for the automatic rifle. Try using This Machine with armor piercing rounds too.

Thats odd. I just realized that I've only used Energy, Melee, and Unarmed weapons on them, despite me having a 95 Gun skill. :unsure2:

The .45 Auto SMG works very well against everything in Big Mt especially with Supers and the Grunt Perk. Nothing survives a magazine.

To be honest, the Abilene Kid BB Gun would be more effective then a 9mm.

X-2 Antenna or Protonic Inversal Axe. Really, there are pretty much 0 guns that can kill robots without wasting ammo.

Mercy. My pure Explosive/Heavy Weapons character completely obliterates them with 3-4 40mm grenades, and those 3-4 40mm grenades just wiped the floor clean of 3 MK3 Robo-scorpions just now. I say thats a great trade dont you think so? and from what I understood, Mercy is part of your build yes? Then rejoice.

However, I advise you that you take Heave Ho! for Mercy, as well as the demo expert perks and Splash Damage, these three perks make Mercy the Ultimate killing machine.

I used a riot shotgun to knock them over, then an assault carbine w AP rounds to chew them up.
I went in before lvl 20 on that playthrough, so they weren't that tough compared to my first trip through at 40ish.

Pulse gun. :)

I am completely flummoxed that no one has mentioned it before me.

For me, two pulse shots, and then a cherry tap with some other smaller gun to get rid of the last sliver of health they have left.

There's a simple trick to meleeing RadScorpions, mechanical or otherwise. They have a powerful but slow attack so get in close do an attack or two then back away quick before they can land a hit. Even with minimal Melee skill you can chip away at rad scorpion till it's dead like this. With high melee skill and the Superslam perk it's even easier.

One exception to this rule of thumb are the Giant Rad Scorpions that have such a long attack range that you can't get away fast enough from them.

To add to the above, scorpions have a relatively slow turning circle and their strongest attacks can only be performed to enemies directly in front of them. You can use this to your advantage by continuously circling them, always making sure you stay just ahead of their claws in the circle regardless of which direction you're circling, while you beat them to death using a long reach melee weapon. I cleared Scorpion Gulch and the valley north of Goodsprings at level 3 on VH/hardcoe using just a baseball bat.

-Proton Axe, or it's unique.
-Holorifle+++ with OC MFCs, even with a non-EW speced character.
-Riot Shotgun, or hunting shotgun, with both perks and magnum buckshot. Never, ever use slugs.
-GCSR, COS SR with HP ammo for the 0-20 DT ones, AP for those over 20 DT.

....Then there is me bringing over 6,300Wg in equipment into the DLC. It's not like I'm lacking weapons, ammo or armor.

Guns are a bit lacking against the RoboScorpions compared to the other weapon classes.

Personally I think weapons with strong single shots are the most effective.

I'm not even halfway through OWB, but have seen quite a few of them already. So far I have been using Elijah's advanced LAER with a certain level of success, however, what I am finding to be immensely more useful is the robotics expert perk. Just sneak up on them when you can, and threat extinguished. It saves that precious ammo for more important needs.
