Everyday NPC Rumors?

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:47 pm

In Oblivion every NPC would be able to tell you something new after the end of the day via rumors, and it made them seem more dynamic. In Fallout 3 they never made NPC's say anything new after you exhausted them of their text strings. After you spoke to someone once, and got all of their info out, they would never have anything new to say. Like; they were just a glass of milk that would remain empty after you drank it-- they wouldn't ever refill their glasses to some extent with something new at the end of the day. It left me feeling much less immersed in the dynamo of the world than in Oblivion. It didn't give me a reason to hang out in a city and engage with the community.

Also, I feel that the Radiant Story system should include a type of "rumor creation engine" for info coming and going from city to city. Thats the whole idea behind Radiant Story anyway.

So I was wondering, Does Skyrim follow the path of limited speech strings like Fallout 3? Or does every NPC have something new and interesting to say every day?

Ye gods, how did they make it out alive?

I'm confident it will be quite dynamic.

I agree, that aspect of FO was a little disapointing. It was only dynamic in a few situations. Hopefully the radiant engine will make conversations more dynamic and more life like, or maybe like in dragon age origins.

Capable, but will they be arsed to put in the game. Beth should work on the small things that make a game great, rather than gimmicky stuff like dual-wielding, two-handed spells, perks, etc.

Exactly so long as they had enough time to work on these aspects of the game. Though im very certain rumors have been implemented as well as the dual-wielding and two-handed spells.

Small conversations between two people like Mudcrabs and all do not bother me, but I got annoyed buy

"I ran into some goblins the other day, nasty creatures!"

"Don't be the last to read today's Black Horse Courier!"

Hopefully they don't just end their conversations so abruptly like they did in oblivion

Yes these quotes have become wayyyy too repetitive.

"I saw a dragon yesterday, i was scared and found a hole to hide in"

It will probably be like the Black horse courier in Oblivion, when the player finishes a notable quest the NPCs will discuss the outcomes.

I always loved the interaction between NPC's in Oblivion:

"Saw a Goblin the other day... ugly creatures",
"STOP TALKING TO ME",
"...You too!"

*they both glare at you menacingly*

If that's in Skyrim, Ill be a happy camper :)

"They say we talk way too much about mudcrabs. But they are nasty little critters. I stay clear of them whenever I can. I hear the meat is good though."
