game freezes momentarily when fights begin and after fights

Post » Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:09 pm

My PC copy of Oblivion has started to freeze for about 5 - 10 seconds once a fight starts, pausing the flow of music as well; not playing the battle music until the game resumes, and then vice versa after the fight is over.
it also appears to do this when i die, yet i have no problem when i stealth kill, or otherwise kill a creature/NPC without giving the battle music a reason to play.
this began earlier this week, after i decided to play the game after a long period of not having played. I have reinstalled it since with no success.
It had previously worked fine, and i have also found that my copy of Morrowind is doing the same thing.

any help as to why this is happening, as well as possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Eric

The pause is from the game switching music. If you are short on ram, the game has to fetch it from the disk. If you have onboard sound, the processor has to... erm..... welll.... Process.... it.

My view is: Life doesn't come with a sound track.

So, I disabled music altogether. You get a nice little performance boost, and, you get to HEAR the ambient sounds. Like the footsteps of that NPC you don't see..... :D

To try it, open your oblivion.ini, located in My Games\Oblivion, and find the setting:

bmusicenabled=1

Change the one to a zero, save, exit, and then play the game. See what ya think.

Thanks.

I suspected the audio rendering to be an issue, and disabled the registry in the Ini. file. funny thing though, it wasnt working (always had trouble with that thing), and so i actually had cut out the music file entirely.

Shame, really... such lovely music in that game... but hey, it fuctions better than it originally did :D

Again, thanks for the help - Eric
