How Long Do Wood Elves Live?

Post » Thu Aug 25, 2011 6:00 am

I am currently doing a Let's Play of Oblivion on Youtube with a wood elf thief. I put an amazing amount of work into the character's background and personality, even going as as far as writing journal entries of how he views the events of the LP. A lot of my viewers keep asking if I plan on doing a Skyrim LP with the same character. I'm wondering if this is even possible. If I heard right, Skyrim takes place over 200 years after oblivion. I looked everywhere, but I can't find anything that says how long Wood Elves live for. So... could he live long enough to carry over, and how old would he be? He is 18 in Oblivion, so would he be middle aged, or very old?

I hope someone knows, because I really like the possibilities of showing people how he has changed in an older stage of his life.

Not really for the Skyrim section. It fits the lore section better.

To answer you question, they don't really live THAT long. A 218 year old wood elf would probably be dead, for a good solid 50 years ago.

Umm.. @Elderscrollsfan111111: Why would wood elves live nearly three times as long as dunmers?

Ok so now we just have everything from 150 years to 1000 years. No sources as of yet of their general age so I wouldn't draw any conclusions as of yet.

I always thought elves lived for hundreds of years. There'v been many mages that lived for thousands. Vivec lived for almost two era's. And in Morrowind Divayth Fyr complained about having nothing to do for thousands of years (Why he created his daughter's/wive's.)

Even longer maybe. I am not sure though.
Spoiler
Barenziah was a Dunmer and she was old enough to get busy with Emperor Tiber Septim and meet the Nerevarine in Tribunal :hubbahubba:

Altmer can live like 100 years and Bretons 50. Those are the longest and shortest lifespans within the races, so somewhere in between there.

218 years isn't out of the question for Bosmer. He'll either be (towards the end of) middle age to old though. Most of the reasons why elves die young is due to disease and combat. They are, as you know, capable of living a long life.

Middle age to older would be great! I'm playing him young, brash, and innocent (relatively speaking) I think it would be neat to see how he has mellowed out and changed :)

Anyone know if they plan to let you write in books this time? His journals are a huge part of the LP and I had to get a 3rd party mod to write them. I need to find a way to carry the journals entries over to Skyrim.

I'd make him as old as is possible in Skyrim.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAFE35B710A81E243

the first video sets up the character (might want to skip the second vid since it was just people asking questions about him and me answering in order to better define him)

Be warned though, I role play him heavy. No metagame knowledge and I'm not doing the main quest :)

All elves can, with magic and luck, live past 1000 years. Most live to around 200-400 years pending race, background, and position in society.
