The giant seam lin ethat runs down toheo middle of Argonian

Post » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:00 am

Yeah it's called a mirror cut. Why create the head twice when you can mirror it. I think this was a design choice so the mirror looks more natural. To be honest the texture is perfect and covers it well. These guys know what they are doing, it's a really good job.

It was clearly an artistic choice. Not only do plenty of real reptiles have this, but if you look closely at the texture, it actually isn't semetrical. It's very close, but there are some discrepencies.

The seam is a design choice, not a texture error.

what's distracting about it? have you seriously never seen http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/9777/9777,1205361046,3/stock-photo-brown-tree-snake-head-from-above-10311877.jpg before?

Look at the pic again. The snake doesn't have the seam going down the full length of it's head (under the 'hut' part of the watermark). On the Argonians, it goes from behind the head, between the eyes, and over the mouth, in one continuous straight line. The way the scales and everything are aligned, it makes it look like a line that splits the head in two perfect halves (heads aren't supposed to be perfectly symmetrical, and the human brain can tell something's off when it is, and that seam draws attention to the symmetry).

Sorry but the horrible typos in the title, was about to run out and just typed it up quick without checking.

I know some reptiles have lines, but many do NOT have a giant line that runs straight down their entire face , from the top of their head to the mouth, under the mouth, etc. That line is also usually formed where scales meet, and isn't just a line by itself without scales/designs forming said line. . I have looked a pictures of lizards/snakes both and I have yet to find a single one with a line running down their head like the Argonian pictures. It's usually just a colored line that stops above the mouth, or scales that form a line looking shape where they meet (but also doesn't go all the way perfectly straight from the tip top of the head to the neck).

It makes the model look like it's cheaply slapped together. If it's a cosmetic choice then please let us at least have the option of having it or not having it on character creation.

They didn't have a huge very visible line like that on Argonians in either Oblivion nor Morrowind.

That line is clearly there to mark the spot on their head where you strike it with a big, nasty axe... duh!

Doesn't come off as annoying or too blatant for me. It's certainly an improvement over Oblivion and as long as it's not essentially broken, why fix it?

Haha, that's a snake. But yes, I agree, it's perfectly normal. Though I would maybe like them to have a single rostral scale rather than have it divided both ways like the rest of the head.

Uh, this line is formed by scales too, it's not some seperate entity, it's just a small space betewen the scales.

I still don't get how someone could mistake that for a seem. It's the space between the scales and it looks fine. If the scales were all connected, they wouldn't be able to move.

lol. Snakes aren't lizards. Reptiles, yes, lizards, no.

I don't care for the seam on the Argonians either. They may exist in real reptiles, but Argonians are not real reptiles. To me it's too much of a departure from the Argonians' look in the previous two games, where there were no easily visible seam lines in the middle of their heads.

What's the deal with this? It's REALLY noticeable to me, and distracting. It's one of the things holding me back from trying one out, it just looks like they slapped a mirrored side to one another and left the seam in place instead of fixing it up.

How hard would it be to have the head without that noticable huge line running down the middle? At least as an option if someone wants it or not, but to me it's annoying...

That and the game doesn't come out till November.

Can we spend more than a split second typing the title!

Its clearly in another language, "Lin ethat down toheo" is just an advanced shout meant to get everyones attention.

The seam is a design choice, not a texture error.

Should we even mention that this guys avatar from the new pics looks like Jack Sparrow?
For that matter, these are all presets to give ravenous fans something new to look at, yours may look different :toughninja:

If you look at most lizards, the seam is actually a part of their physical appearance. So, the seam is a way to look more realistic, in a sense. It's actually rather hard to do visually, from what I gather...

It looks like they're part of the scales, I think they're intentional
