Will torches actually be useful?

In oblivion I could run through a dungeon without using a light source, because there was always a light haze in which I could see the walls etc.... I hope in this game, some dungeons are utterly pitch black and require a torch in order to see

Hopefully there are some dungeons that need a torch, but sometimes people want to use shields or something.

I hope you can drop your torches without having to mod it in. By that I mean throw them down to light the area so you can use two handers and what not.

Yeah I've almost never found I had to use a torch or light spell. But I think the reasoning behind that is that they don't want you to be screwed if you don't have those things. Personally while I get that I think it would be cooler and much creepier to have to rely on myself to provide light and find my way in the dark.

I want a pitch black Dungeon that is populated by bandit Khajiits (that take advantage of their night eye) and will stalk you thur the dungeon untill you detect them or deside to kill you (like when you get hurt form a trap or are picking a lock! That reminds me... why did NPC never use stealth?

I can understand the reasoning for not making totally dark caves, such as screwing over those that need the off-hand for 2 handed weapons or shields, but without total darkness (or very close too), it does seem to make them obsolete. I never used them in Oblivion, and the light spells and similar traits were pretty redundant. IT would be a welcome inclusion to have very dark areas in caves at least.

Good point. I never even needed night eye for the most part. And I didn't mess with the game's gamma/brightness. But then again, this game won't even have a true night. It'll just be darker than normal. I think the game would do great to have a true darkness to it in caves and at night time. Makes exploration during that time more ominous and adventurous.

Well now, with the flame-thrower-like spell, I believe they have been replaced. What's better? Carrying a stick with fire that you can swing about or blasting flames from your finger-tips and singeing your way past any enemy?

But yeah, I presume they'll be useful so long as everything isn't lit up like a christmas tree. (Dungeons that is.)
