The Names Of Exterior Cells

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:22 pm

Hi. I have a city (still!), and I have just noticed that when I am inside a building and about to travel outside (back into the city), the name that shows is still for the cell that was there before (Darkwater or some such). Is there a way to change these names or am I stuck with them unless I do something dramatic?

BTW: Yes, I have 'Named' the cells from Wilderness or whatever they were, but a right click to edit the cell does not give the option to change the 'Name' of the cell (which is displayed when you are about to enter that cell through a door)

Cheers

Did you double click the 'Wilderness'(editor ID part) and you to changed the name manually there? Sorry, that part was a little confusing to me.

Yes. I double click the word Wilderness in the editor and rename the cell. That part is fine, its just that if I have a building in that cell, when I come OUT of the building, the destination shown for the door is not a name that I have put in. I wonder if I can edit that name?

That name is determined by the region information for that cell. Regions can contain map data, so it's normally just a matter of making a small region in that cell(s) and giving that region a high override priority. Cell names for exteriors are mostly just there for convenience in finding a particular cell in the world.

Edit the door not the cell. You can set the "door to xxx" value there.

Thanks guys - Questions as always:

Please expand further - Iv not played with Regions at all (I just looked at them because of this post) and Id not want to break things with my uninformed fiddling!

This sounds much nicer than Regions! But Iv looked at the door and I cant see where to change this information in any of the tabs. How would I do this?

Not that much to it. Just avoid adding items or textures with a region unless that is REALLY what you want and have a backup.
