Argonian Love/Hate

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 11:55 pm

If there's a thread like this, please link it.

I just want to understand; What is it about Argonians that make this communities opinions so polarizing?

I made a thread recently talking about my own and their conversion into Skyrim, and the very SECOND reply was "Argonians should all die and people who like them".
There were a few like this, and I don't understand.

I mean, Argonians are my personal favored race but for no real discernible reason other than they just "look kinda cool".

So, why all the love? Why all the hate? I'm just trying to understand.

The people who hate Argonians are either dark elf followers or they just don't like lizards, the reason dark elf followers hate argonians because of the wars and the fact that the argonians now own most of Morowind, killing almost every remaining dark elf left.

Personally I to am an Argonian follower and dislike dark elves, so it works both ways.

I blame Morrowind worship and the strong Argonian/Dunmer conflict set up in that game.

Also, Dark Elves and Dunmer are statisticall the most "Well-Rounded" races in The Elder Scrolls games.

I find the whole Argonian-love thing only slightly more disturbing than the Dunmer-racism thing amongst the fans. It comes off as being a creepy rabid cult when I see Argonian fans making big love threads to the race and forum-goers using blue text to 'show their support' or whatever. It comes off as legitimately racist when people...well...just show flat-out racism toward Argonians or Khajiit.

What's most frustrating for me is I don't even get why people like Argonians so much or why they're one of the most popular races. I mean, every race is going to have its fans, but why do Argonians have so many? It's a lizard-man race. They have hive-mind about the Hist and...in general, they are the least-relateable race in the entire game, as they're the furthest away from human beings. I imagine people only use them because either they want the weirdest looking thing, they don't roleplaying, and/or they're only concerned about racial abilities. All of three of which I consider to be less-than-favorable ways to approach the game. Or they could possibly be furries for lizards. Scalies I think they're called or something. I won't get into that here.

I wonder this too, but its probably the same reason that I love Argonians and dislike Dunmer. But as one user said, It probably is because of the whole Dunmer vs Argonian thing, and because they took over most of Morrowind lol

I'm a big Dunmer fan and I like Argonians. Go figure.

The way I see it, the Dunmer are an interesting race because they have a complex, interesting culture. The Argonians taking over Morrowind just promises to make that culture even more interesting, and gives opportunity for growth and development over time. In short, destroying Morrowind just makes dark elves even more badass.

I have nothing against Argonians but don't really care for them either same with Dark Elves.
In the end I think Morrowind and The Infernal City are the main reasons for Argonian/Dark Elf worship.

Actually, I had no particular feeling for Argonians directly from the games. However, the in my eyes absolutely twinkish/powergamerish treatment of them in Infernal City has led to a profound dislike.

I love them for what they are: very special creatures with interesting looks and nice abilities. Bethesda did a great job with the beast races, for me they are most appealing.

love them.

They are the dark brotherhood favored race of TES (Argonians hatched under a certain sign are instantly taken as eggs into the DB).

I'd like to see more Argonian based equipment and armor to feature in TES. I feel the lack of this restricts them as a race.

I imagine a waterproof light / medium armor looking possibly like DB armor or the much like the Dreugh armor from Morrowind. I haven't seen that much on Argonian lore but I'm guessing them as quite an Aboriginal type people back home. They did however have the power, technolgy and means to sack and conquer Morrowind, so I don't want to underestimate them though.

While first playing Morrowind, I always took the Dreugh armor as being made for Argonians as it didn't feature a face guard and only had upper body so Argonians could wear it. That and Dreugh being underwater creatures and Argonians spending much time underwater so it kinda made sense to me. That and I never actually saw any native Dunmers wearing it but did see them wearing the other armors such as netch and bonemold so I didn't see it as a Dunmer armor type. Its Armor Rating stats for that armor were high so it was a good armor for an Argonian to wear.

Argonians and Dunmer share much history of rivalry which to me makes the games more interesting.

How about a Camonna Tong Vs Dark Brotherhood rivalry on the underworld of Tamriel?

love argonians

they are a very relatable race imo (looks arn't everything i mean persinality wise)
Their seemingly expressionless faces belie a calm intelligence, and many Argonians are well-versed in the magical arts. Others rely on stealth or steel to survive, and their natural agility makes them adept at either. They are, in general, a reserved people, slow to trust and hard to know. Yet they are fiercely loyal, and will fight to the death for those they have named

the http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Argonian is interesting (not much is known, religion refrences sithis, five diffrent tribes, sequential hermaphrodites, ect)

they have the invasion of morrowind going for them as well

So hi again. This is actually Avanguard, had to re-register because of the hack thing. (Couldn't remember my "account" OR email.)

Anyway, this is interesting. I never read the Infernal City (Okay, I had the chance too, but it was much too dry for me and didn't get very far. All I remember is some argonian, some chick, then some dude in a storm then some dude with a prince with a guard who had the hots for him. That's literally ALL I know.)

I guess you could say I was an Argonian fan before it was "cool".
