Any advice?

I tried playing Daggerfall a while ago. I liked the game, for what it was, but one thing about it completely turned me away after awhile.

The dungeons. The dungeons are ridiculous. The main quest ones aren't bad, but the ones for misc. quests are awful. There's no sense of purpose for how these places were built, and they are sickeningly enormous. Just going in to loot isn't bad, but trying to find quest targets is nigh impossible.

I wound up playing a character who just took on quests leading to towns or cities, since the targets are eaiser to find there. But after while, the fact that I was missing out on a huge facet of the game got to me, and I quit. I had been stalled on the main quest too, as even though I was the right level, I couldn't get the next stage to begin.

I want advice, if I ever play Daggerfall again, on how to navigate the dungeons.

The easiest way I have to remember where I need to go is to keep track of the major landmarks and which paths I didn't take. There's a lot of distinctive elements that help you keep your bearings, and you'll learn the patter of the blocks well enough to know which early indicators mean that this one will be a dead end. When you come to a major landmark, like a large room with a bunch of doors and switches, you have to especially remember which door you used to get into that room. Use the dead bodies as a trail of breadcrumbs to lead you back to the door if you have to drop off loot. Go voidwalking if you really can't figure out what to do. If you levitate and crouch climb and uncrouch in slanted doorways, you can get out into the void and levitate around looking for the correct room. Often times you can grab the object through the wall and teleport out of there.

Also, get familiar with that map! It's 3d, and you can mark it.
