Techinal Support, no, not techically

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:02 am

This is pulled from Bethesda's own technical support page.

FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS : PLAYSTATION 3 : RESOLUTION400003361

Q: Extended play causes hitching and performance issues in the Wasteland.

A: If the player plays the game for an extended period of time (5+ hours) wandering the wasteland, they may notice some performance issues resulting in hitching. The player can usually resolve this by saving their game, rebooting, and picking up where they left off.

Really? This is all you guys have in your "technical support" website? And I love the part about "picking up where they left off", that's an outright LIE.... er... serving to convey a false impression. You have to continue from your last save, we all know that, they know that, yet they continue to have this as their official response.

I'm calling today and seeing how that goes.

Phone number from sticky is 410-568-3685. I'll post again the conversation I have with their representative.

I'm confused.Your "last save" is the one you just made before rebooting. Isn't that where you left off?

Ok, so the phone thing is also a lie. There is no support for Fallout:NV via the phone number. It's all automated and New Vegas is not even an option to select. So it refers you to the website technical support which is of course... not helpful in any way, shape, or form.

You must not have played the game before. If i'm running around in the Mojave for 2 hours collecting things, killing stuff, and getting xp... then it locks up. I have to go BACK to where i last saved. The last 2 hours will have been for nothing. Which would be where i left off.

Here is the universal Q&A for Fallout NV :

Q: If I do [PUT YOUR ACTION HERE] the game crash

A : Don't [PUT YOUR ACTION HERE].

But if you begin noticing performance issues and do as they suggest, hopefully you'll avoid the lock up. That's the point of the suggestion.

I've also been helped by sleeping/waiting for 72 game hours and then making a save. That allows the game to reset all it's respawnable bodies and containers.

Where is the lie in the statement? It is obvious that you have to save in order to continue your game from where you left off. There is nothing wrong on what was said there. The problem is just that you forgot to save and the think locked up. Always save.

Well, I understand your point. Thanks for responding by the way. However, I don't notice much in the form of "hitches" before the game freezes. So I don't have time to make a save before the freeze. So basically my only option is to resave after every discovery or xp gain, which is quite annoying.

I see the logic, all be it tedious, of sleeping/waiting 72 hours then making a save. That's something that may be useful to some. Again though, I've tried this based off a suggestion from another forum and have yet to see any difference in terms of frequency of lockups and freezes.

That′s bad. At least in Fallout 3 when we saw the "hitches" we knew it was time to save.

You get no warning of when you should save. Every 30 seconds to a minute the game will pause for 2 seconds and then continue on running. So we need to save the game every 30 seconds to a minute?

If there is one reason as to why the game was released in it's current state is fear of not getting any sales when Black Ops graces the land and young boys scream in excitement. Then again you would think all the reviews and these complaints would stop people from buying the game.

I made the smart decision on renting the game and not buying it first. As much as I enjoy New Vegas and what it has to offer I despise it just the same. It reminds me of when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl came out on PC - One of the buggiest shooters to ever come out. It took that game three patches to fix a few major quest bugs and many fixes to the gameplay, textures and scripting issues. GSC Gameworld knew about the state of the game and clearly was NOT ready to launch, but that's not how THQ saw it.

Their publisher would not give them anymore time on the game. GSC admitted to the bugs, glitches and the few major quest bugs, game crashes and so on. They worked hard on fixing these issues and within a few months the game was more playable. This is the same case with New Vegas. (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an Open-World FPS with non-scripted A.I)

I'm starting to think Bethesda did not want to give Obsidian anymore time to fix anything major. They probably figured patches would save their asses. As much as it is Obsidian's fault, Bethesda is the same, if not worse.

I want to buy New Vegas... I see this newest addition to the beloved FALLOUT series as the best since FALLOUT 2 - The bugs are keeping it from reaching that point. We need to wait and see what happens. We know a patch is coming but have no idea when.
