What if the Ghostfence fell before the Nerevarine arrived?

I'm curious to know, how do you think things would have happened had the main character not arrived until after the Ghostfence fell? My understanding is it's the Tribunal keeping it up with their powers, and if they were kept long enough away from the Heart they simply wouldn't have the power to keep it up properly. So, what happens if it falls before the main character arrives, likely sent there as a last ditch effort of the emperor? Sending them could also be a way to ensure that if the main character would be a target, they'd be nicely delivered and out of the Imperial prisons.

I'm wondering, how do you suppose the climate of Vvardenfell would change, both geographically and socially? I'd think that in many, if not all cities, most of the residents would gather together in a main well-defensible building or a nearby cave. I also like to think the vampires would band together and perhaps be more accepted by everyone. The idea that their disease resistance could extend to corpus, at least as long as you weren't directly targeted to get it, would help drastically with that. This idea however isn't really supported (or denied) by canon, so I'm particularly interested to know what others might think of it. Opposite from the vampires, I'd think most of the Telvanni would isolate themselves in their Tels, but I've still yet to play through the Telvanni quest line so perhaps I'm wrong on that.

The reason I ask is I've been thinking how awesome it would be to do a sort of total conversion that changed the atmosphere of the game to something much darker and creepier without changing the location or timeframe to drastically. This seemed like a good idea, so naturally I want to share it and help it grow. I ask here because it seemed like the best place to ask, but if it doesn't do to well here I might ask the lore forum (it doesn't fit as well, but maybe it'll be tolerated there because a lot of the things I'd be asking for input on are lore ones and not exactly specific to Morrowind quests, like the aforementioned idea about vampirism helping to protect against corpus).

So basically, I want people to pick at the idea and add to it if they can. I won't promise anything will ever come of it, but either way it'll still make for good discussion.

Well you can look through some documents (Dagoth Ur's Plans i think) which pretty much outlines exactly what would happen if D-Ur won.

Basically imagine the weather in Red Mountain everywhere. 6th house monsters everywhere and everyone is enslaved, recruited or infected with blight/corpus.

No real option for resistance. Keep in mind that if Ghostgate goes down, chances are Dagoth Ur is trolling around in the Akulakhan pwning everything so yea.

Game over.

:obliviongate:

[atleast the Oblivion crisis would have been avoided :D ]
