...seeing as the game could be a complete failure at launch, it's too early to tell.

skyrim will not get game of the year , battlefield 3 will

There are multiple GOTY awards. BF3 will win one at least. I'm confident Skyrim will as well, unless one of those two ends up pulling a Warhammer Online and blowing massive potential.

That is very unlikely. I dont really see any other competition for GOTY other than maybe Battlefield 3. I like Call Of Duty, but MW3 better not win GOTY, that would be ridiculous. So I think its fair to say that Skyrim looks the likely candidate for GOTY.

Idk. I'm still heartbroken after hearing the lack of armor types and equipment. I was expecting there to be like triple the amount of equipment from Oblivion. But we got the same amount if not less... I like quantity and variety.

Is that one of the actual criteria for a GOTY?

We kind of need to play it first. I'm not usually negative but what if there are game breaking bugs or the design decisions just don't add up properly.

The recent Deus Ex will really give Skyrim a run for its money for GOTY, but Skyrim will most likely receive RPG of the year. It is too early to be asking these questions.

Maybe, but there's lots of other games that might win.. I've got a ton of favourites myself: Gears of War 3, Saint's Row 3 :disguise:, maybe Battlefield 3. FIFA 12.

I must be one of those few that haven't actually played the game. Asking if something will be GOTY based simply on the pre-release hype would be silly and rather pointless. There have been a large number of great games this year and TES is now a series that no longer has a perfect record of performance in my book.

It'll get most of the best RPGs as it doesn't really have any competition, only things like Witcher 2. I imagine it will get some GOTY awards from some places as well. As long as Uncharted 3 doesn't get basically every single game of the year award, I'll be happy.

There are so many game of the year awards given out the title has lost its meaning.

Battlefield 3 will probably be the real game of the year on the PC side of things.
