While talking to Varus Vantinius, I chose the topic duel.Now he's waiting for me to fight him in the Vivec Arena and I'm not even a member of the Imperial Legion.What's worse is that I want to fight a Hlaalu champion in the Arena also, and I'm not intrested in wearing the Imperial uniform >_<.I've tried many things that to stop the quest(remove script plug-in, console cheats) but I can't manage to turn Varus into a friendly NPC again.Even if I put him back into the Grand Council Chambers of Ebonheart, he keeps attacking my character.
Is there any way to fix the glitch? It is very annoying and frustrating, especially after spending hours trying to solve the problem.

Load an earlier save?

Odd that it happened. I'd think you couldn't duel him until it was a quest item, but I suspect the IL, MG and FG might have leaders who are in place based on right of combat. So, you could become leader without even joining the faction.

Do you just not want to fight the guy or are you worried that he will interfer with the Hlaalu Duel? If you set up the Hlaalu duel first, he will be the first one in the arena and you can leave and not come back. The Imperial Guy won't show up until you go back in. You don't have to wear the Imperial Uniform and the Imperial you fight does have a cool sword for you to take from his corpse, after he beats you up with it.

You can use the console to stopcombat on the NPC, you may also try setting the dispostion to 100.

I almost forgot about this topic (lol).Yeah, I was worried about the Hlaalu duel, mainly.I also didn't want to become a member of the legion because I can't stand hearing the soldiers asking me about my uniform.I created some plug-ins to remove the guy from the game and now I can't seem to get the Hlaalu duel started.I go to the Arena and the one I'm supposed to fight doesn't show up.He did show up once, but then the grandmaster was there too.Even with the plug-ins disabled, the Hlaalu guy doesn't show up.

I've had the same happen without being the member of the Imperial Legion, and I have a technical question about it. Is this because of the topic "duel"? If you get it from somewhere else, will it always be available with Varus, and will choosing it while speaking to him always automatically trigger this race for the Knight of the Imperial Dragonship whether you're the Legion member or not?

I remember I had no scheduled fights at the Arena at the time I got this, so I must've gotten the "duel" topic from some Redoran-related vanilla sheit or mod. I just didn't want to fight him as I understood it's some sort of a design flaw and just didn't want to ruin the immersion. I would've beaten him! (Yeah right...) Just didn't want to! <_<

Yeah, the quest is triggered by the topic duel."Duel" first appears during the main quest when you need to fight that guy in order to become Redoran Hortator.
I don't want to fight him...with my current character, I'd rather not join the legion.My character has no reason to do so too.
