is the collectors edition worth it?

but it's obviously just to milk money from all the die-hard fans.

Or maybe the die-hard fans just really enjoy this sort of thing and they want to buy it. Ever think about that?

If I am a fan of a game series (as I listed on Page 2), I will pay the cost for any Collector's/Limited/Legendary Edition of a game. I love the extra swag, that's why I buy it, and also because I'm a collector of such things.

In no way do I feel cheated or swindled. If you feel that that is the only reason it exists, then just don't buy it. By the Gods it's not that big of a deal, but please don't belittle the people who do enjoy these things just because you don't see the point in it.

Doing so only makes you seem ignorant and elitist, and nobody wants to look like that.

Eh, I'm personally a little old for toys so the crappy little plastic paper weight doesnt intrest me. I'm pretty big with following all the interviews and content videos and such so I dont need the making DVD. The artbook might be kinda cool but not for another $90, thats my MW3 money :wavey:

I could say the same thing.

So are you saying that marketing is merely just a myth and there is no such thing as a target audience.? (i.e you).

If you enjoy it then I respect that, but you can't argue that it's just there to milk more money out of people. It wouldn't exist otherwise.

What are you going to do with all this stuff, years down the line? I used to collect detailed car models when I was young. They are currently in a box gathering dust.

I also have a Fallout 3 limited edition "Power Armor Guy" and I can see it now just cluttering my shelf, untouched for years. That's the only thing I have.

I don't think I will ever understand your passion, but as I say, I respect it.

It's not outrageously overpriced. At all.
I don't see why people are crying that is is. You're getting the items in the CE (i.e bundle) cheaper than what they would go for individually.

Simple answer to the problem:

If you're in doubt, don't get it.

I will be getting it, it will cost me a lot and will probably not worth it. However, i'm a svcker for collector's editions and as has been pointed out above, a new Elder Scrolls game only comes out every 5 years or so. I've got the Morrowind and Oblivion collector's editions aswell, so i wouldn't want to break the cycle ;p

Also, i was one of the idiots who got the GT5 signature edition. Suddenly the Skyrim CE doesn't look that expensive anymore ;p

On the other hand, some people pay hundreds of bucks for a post stamp, toy train, lego set or even... Call of Duty map packs (yes, i went there).

If by "milk money out of people" you mean "to sell a product" then...yeah, it wouldn't exist otherwise. The only reason ANYONE sells ANYTHING is to "milk money out of people". That's what all of western civilization is based on. If you can't afford it/don't want it/think it's a waste of money/etc. that's YOUR business, but you're coming off as an a$$ when you say stuff like that. There ARE people out there who have a couple extra bucks who enjoy this stuff, it's no different then you enjoying purchasing a video game...Don't you realize all those games you buy are just to milk money out of you?

Oh, I'm so sorry that spending money on something that can't be *used* for years down the road makes your brains explode...

I don't think it is worth it. I would only watch the DVD once and I don't really want a dragon statue (even if I did there are better ones available for less money) so I would be paying an extra £90 for an art book. I do wish you were able to buy the art book separately though because it sounds pretty awesome.

Thank you for the respect for my passion, and I do argue that it isn't there just to milk money out of people. It is giving fans some extra swag that no one else gets, and the fans do ask for this stuff.

From a Collector's stand point, even years down the line they (like all of my Collector's Edition swag from the Halo series and Assassin's Creed series) will be proudly displayed on a set of bookshelves I have near my gaming "man corner". They never "gather dust", I regularly dust and take very good care of my Collectibles. They are a source of pride for me, and I find that other Collectors of game memorabilia greatly enjoy my collection as much as I do.

I respect your position that you don't see the point in it, but I do get aggravated when people tell me that my passion is "ignorant" or something like that. I'm not implying that you said it is/was ignorant, but you get my point.

1. I said MORE money. Read it.
2. I said I respect you guys opinions and never insulted you.
3. Why are you insulting me?
4. Stop trying to be clever, I understand "business"

Now you just look insecure and to be honest it looks like you are trying to justify it to me.

Of course the price is pretty much insane. But than again it's the first time I concidered a game worthy of buying the CE for. I've played and modded Oblivion for over five years and Skyrim will be pretty much the same, so when looking at the lifespan of the game I think I can justify it for myself. Looking mostly forward to the artbook.
