I have been a big fan of fallout3 and FANV, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for games similar to these. I like shooting and blowing up stuff but also like being able to take different tracks for different results. I even liked all the blathering in OWB. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Well, Fallout 1 and 2, obviously. There's an old game called Wasteland, which served as inspiration for Fallout. You could try and Fallout RP in Minecraft, maybe.

STALKER series. Very similiar otherwise, but they're not RPG's and have bigger focus on shooting and horror elements. Great games nonetheless. Well worth playing.
Deus EX (not invisible war) and Deus Ex Human Revolution are more RPG's than STALKER games and offer different paths through questlines.

For a couple. I didn't suggest anything without first person perspective and first person shooting, since I don't really know how important you think it is.

Bioshock 1 and 2. Similar art style. Plus they're just fun games in general.

If the theme of the game isn't so important then I would vote for Oblivion and Mass Effect. Bioshock was a lot of fun also.

Thanks, I will try some ,or all of them . Yes I do like the first person perspective. I just hope they work with windows 7(the older games).

Oh, wait, wow. Metro 2033, Resistance (1, 2, and 3), and RAGE.

I can vouch most of these except maybe RAGE since it isn't out yet but it looks really fun.

Metro 2033 is a really good game with some sweet graphics if you are into eye candy.

Borderlands. Can't believe no one mentioned that yet!

It's pretty similar to F3/NV in many ways, but the randomized loot (like diablo2) is probably the highlight for me.

I have to recommend Borderlands. Its lighter in story, but still a fun time. Its better as far as combat mechanics then FO3 and FO NV, but the fallout games aren't really shooters.

I agree with i2PLY and samo77, Borderlands is a damn good game. I picked up the GOTY edition from Steam a couple of weeks ago for $7.49...a minimum 70 hour game for UNDER $8!!!! It was the exact game I needed coming off of Fallout, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, something that may be a bit light on the story, but has the best and most satisfying action I've ever played in RPG...scratch that. an RPS.

Yeah I'll give a recommendation for Borderlands. Not much like Fallout, but it's a blast. Also the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (who's totally not Dr. Zed) is one of the most enjoyable DLC for any game ever. Actually I liked all the DLC except for the Armory. Purpose made farming zone with no possibility of variation? Blech. Still, if you want the best weapons, you'll have to farm it. Or cheat.

Not much in the story or RPG department though, the game is all about the combat.

It just came out, and is nothing like fallout (unless you see some similarities in Feral Gouls and Zombies), the setting and theme is 100% polar opposite, but this is a FPMS (first person melee shooter...hahah dont know if that has ben used but this game sure fits it..) with quite an emphesis on RPG..as in you can build your characters skills and also craft/mod weapons..This game is Dead Island which I have played a bit and its pretty sweet.

The reason I called it a "first person melee shooter" is because the game is pretty realistic when it comes to how common it is to just stumble across TONS of ammo and assault rifles *cough*L4D*cough* lol (I actually love L4D), So while there are guns in the game, melee weapons are the main focus. (Which is A-OK in my book..not many first person games that focus on melee besides TES)

Also, it is a free roam map with quests and sidequests to add to the RPG emphasis.

So if you like settings beside Post Apocalyptic (although I guess this could be considered that aswell..lol) Wastelands, and using weapons custom made other than just guns, you might want to try Dead Island.

Bioshock is cool too, its in the 50's ish style Art Deco where time stops in this underwater city and is stuck back then...There are also some crazed out drug addicts that remindme of fiends only they are WAY more mentally ill and psychotic....

OR/AND get RAGE & SKYRIM!

Bioshock reminds me of Fallout albeit its underwater, which is awesome and the graphics and art deco make this game epic along with the creepy dark atmosphere, I'd recommend Bioshock 1 and 2.
Metro 20.. Is supposed to be quite good and from what I've seen I looks like Fallout set in Russia with a more darker atmosphere, I've been meaning to pick it up for a while now.

I will also put my 2 cents in for Borderlands. Just got it for a deal on steam, and I am loving it.

The Bioshock series 4 sure!! U can be real creative with the plasmids and spend a lot of time on bioshocks 2 multyplayer!(even though a lot of people say it svcks 4 me its just a fun way to pass the time)

Try and track down an old game called System Shock 2. It's the game Bioshock wished it could be but wasn't. It's getting pretty long in the tooth and the graphics, especially for anything organic, are pretty crude but the game play, level design and story are still the best out there for a RPG shooter. It helps that there's still a very active modding community that's done a lot of work to upgrade the graphics.

Sorry, I can't recommend Borderlands. After four people praised it I looked for gameplay videos on yt. All your enemies take bullets like they are marshmallows. It doesn't seem deadly. The presentation is stylized and exaggerated like a cartoon. The sound effects are nice but the voices and acting come across as a hammy Hollywood movie with overdone acting and ewok language. The worst part is that the player has to bust a line after every critical hit with insulting, stereotypical phrases like "das what ah'm talkin about" and "whoomp dey it is."

I understand that the gameplay itself is chaotic, but not worth it imo if you have to put up with an army of things that make you sick. Perhaps you'd like Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl or Metro 2033.

As I'm sure you know, it was the forerunner to Bioshock.

It's a gear looting based game similar to Diablo, so if your guns and stuff svck then yeah things are overly tough to kill, where you hit matters too obviously. Yeah it's a bti of a comedic apocolypictic world, so if you are looking for 100% serious business it probably won't be for you.

I passed on it for a few years until it came down to about $20, but I played it for a solid 2 months straight with a single character (once you beat it, it restarts you with your all gear/lvls still and on a harder difficulty), so it was more than worth it at that price and it's probably much cheaper now.

Not to mention the awesome co-op.

I'm not a fan of FPS either mind you (pretty much just Borderlands and Fallout), so it's got lots of RPG under the hood, particularily the loot that has fully randomized stats/attributes/special effects/etc on a scale that has not been seen since Diablo2.

Reading through I was blown away it was this far down!

Try KOTOR 2.
For me, this game together with Fallout are best of the best ever.

IMO the only games that are anything like FNV and FO3 are FO1 and 2. But when i am in the mood for an RPG and don't wanna play Fallout I go with either Dragon Age: Origins or KOTOR 1 or 2 you don't get free roam but they are the only RPGs aside from Fallout that I enjoy.
