With the big debut in early Jan of 2011 I doubt we will be seeing anything before then.

Pete said it's unlikely we'll see anything before the magazines of the world show us.

I'm afraid we're going to have to wait for the February issue of Game Informer for more info. After that I'm sure all the news sites and the elder scrolls website itself will have that plus more.

I'm sure Skyrim is still pretty much in the pen & paper stages right now. Lots of flow charts and concept art still being conceived, created and circulated, improv brainstorming sessions in the break room several times daily, but nothing concrete is going in to the computer just yet.

The main story is probably already laid out, but anything put on the table today is certainly subject to change tomorrow, and whatever they are working on this week will most likely be revised beyond recognition by the end of next week.

They will give us goodies eventually... but I think it's a bit premature to expect anything exciting before for a month or two from now.

Actually, they've said 'when we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game to play'. The game comes out in 11 months - they'd be pretty far into the game making process.

Bethesda has never, to the best of my knowledge, given out a definite date unless they are positive they will make that date. For Oblivion, for example, they announced in October 2004 they were working on it. There was a non-specific "Holidays 2005" mentioned eventually, but until they were sure, they didn't announce the March 21st 2006 release date.

Considering the 11-11-11 that was on the announcement, I'd feel pretty safe in guessing that are way past the initial setup and concept art.

In the Dev question thread one of the developers said that he/she had been in the company for over a year, and he/she immiediately started working on Skyrim, and Todd said some months ago that if they had to post screens of their project now he would be proud and have a lot to show, so no I don't think they are in the concept making

What I meant was, anything they would show us this weekend would most likely be revised, omitted, or otherwise mutilated by the end of next week.

Of course the engine is compiled, their "Construction Set" is up and running, and the worldspace is there, but I doubt they have very much that they could use to put together a trailer of the gameplay.

Everything they have said implies they have enough material ready for a gameplay-trailer. Everyting in the history of BGS's timetables and the way of handling publicity implies they would be ready if they wanted to. The release date confirms it. At this stage they are certain to have plenty of stuff to go around if and when they are sensible developers. They'll probably wait for the large magazines to pave the road for more concrete stuff to make bigger splash and to be certain they don't announce anything that would be cut out in the last stages of development.

They've been working on it for roughly 26 months now, as they started on it when Fallout 3 was released. Saying they aren't close enough to releasing it that they can't even make a gameplay trailer is ridiculous.

There was an interview with Todd not too long ago. 16 August, 2010

Eurogamer: You've been working on something secret now for two years. Do you have any sense yet of when you will be able to talk about it or even say what it is? Are going to be sat here next year answering the same question?

Todd Howard: I don't know [laughs]. I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about that, because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it."
But we've just decided for now not to yet.

This kind of implies there is more than a worldspace and construction set.

Ok, ok... don't get physical! :cookie:

I was just speculating. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

I just assume that the concept phase is the slowest stage, progression-wise. Once the devs have the plan, implementing it happens relatively quick.

Besides, I had no idea they had actually been "in production" for over two years already.

Oh don't mind me, being a regular in the TES V Speculation Thread has just made me extremely anol retentive about the length of the game's development.

good point, building a game within 11 monhs would make you end up with something that is terrible beyond imagining

i think they have been developing for a while, in secret :ninja:
