Thinking of making a new Altmer character

Post » Fri Sep 09, 2011 11:41 am

I don't want to make him a complete mage though magic is an essential asset for an Altmer.

I want to give him blade as a primary skill and possibly the option of heavy armor.

Any ideas for his design?

I tend to think the way Altmer were represented in Morrowind looked way better than it did in Oblivion

Blade, Mysticism, Restoration, Alteration, Heavy Armor, Armorer, Mercantile?

Certainly not an optimum build, but I imagine it'd be fun to play around with- the character would focus on buying, collecting, and maintaining all sorts of enchanted blades to make up for his "lack of formal training" in the arts of Destruction? Seems like something those snooty High Elves would do ;)

Maybe go for the Mage sign for extra magicka without the Apprentice weakness?
Or go Atronach and replace Mercantile with alchemy... Really, all three magic-based birth signs would dramatically alter how this character would be played I'd think.

I am playing Altmer. I have Blade as a major skill and Destruction as a Major but all other magic stuff as minor. I have light armour since I am using one stat from each attribute. I think Heavy Armour would be great for you. I have the Atronach for his birth sign. I keep my Alchemy as a minor since in one game it made me level up way to fast. I was like level 15, but really was at leavel 8 combat wise and made the game way to hard for me. If you want lots of magika, and magika regeneration use the Apprentice. Yes you get alot of weakness to an already weakness race, but it's great. Eventually the game becomes to easy, so this way it makes the game a bit harder and if you are stuck, you can always lower the difficulty slider a bit when ever you need to and increase it when too easy.

If you are going by that pic you linked too, then he would be using Light Armour. I don't care for heavy armour because I am pack rat. Anything I see, I carry. I hate being over encumbered and like to carry as much loot back to sell, so I use light armour and when I can, I conjur my armour and weapons. That really makes the game challenging when using the Atronach sign. :P

Hope this helps a bit. :)

yh might be cool. Destruction and blade do work well together as one is close range and the other can provide distance attacks.

I'm not into bartering. I'd rather stick to blade and magic. I think I might add heavy armor (or conjured - not sure yet). I'm not interested in block. I'd rather use that skill on a mage based skill

Sounds like you want a powerful blade using Altmer. I would take the Atronach birthsign because of the beautiful way it synergizes with the Altmer race. As you gain equipment to boost the Atronach 50% spell absorption to 100, you completely obliterate the Altmer's inherant weakness to elemental magic leaving a character with a boatload of both magic and defense against it. Atronachs work best for characters that can get hit by spells and enchanted weapons and since you say you want to use a blade, that implies a willingness to get up close and personal and trade a few blows.

I am loving my Altmer/Atronach charcater right now. I am actually finding uses for Shrines and Wells and other stuff that before I found useless.

Just reread your original post. You said you don't want to be a complete mage. So having your Magika deplete and not replenish right away, makes you not become a mage who uses magika alot.

Just rememeber save before you exit the sewers for the first time. This way if you do not like it, you can start again.
