[Poll] FOV Slider?

Post » Fri Sep 09, 2011 6:22 pm

This is for the PC version, don't worry about this if you're getting Skyrim on a console.

Most console ports now-a-days have low FOV's which can cause some people to get sick and just look plain bad, not to mention immersion breaking. Oblivion and Fallout 3 both had low FOV's which were remedied by mods, but were glitchy in first person (ie: seeing the ends of your arms floating).

So I ask you, would you like to see Bethesda add-in a FOV slider and follow in the footsteps of other ports like Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

Field of View. It allows you to see move of the things around you and gives the image "depth." It also gives the illusion of looking through your monitor than at an image shoved in your face.

I'd like one. Will the be one? Almost certainly no. But I would like one. Peripheral vision, and the lack thereof is the main reason I hate doing melee combat in first person view in Oblivion...

Having a slider would be convenient but I don't care if I have to change it in an ini file again since it was pretty easy to start with.

He might have actually meant "what is it set to by default?"
That's my guess. ?

If I remember correctly Oblivion's was 75 and if you changed it in the .ini it wouldn't fix the menus. So your health would be in the middle of the screen, not the corners.

FOV-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view

It's basically the degree or the extent in which you see the world. In reality, humans have an almost 180 degree view. If it was 360, you would be able to see all the way around you at once.

In Oblivion and Fallout 3, the FOV is set at 75. I suppose this is a good default setting for the consoles, but I'm not sure. I guess it would be different depending on your monitor, but 90 degrees is a bit more enjoyable to me and it can be changed in the .ini file. You can also change it in the console (~), just type FOV 90, but changing it this way is usually temporary, as it will revert back to the default number in the .ini file.
