Oblivion plane retexture

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:51 am

I know the Q pack does not retexture/remodel the Oblivion planes. I was wondering if there is a project like that in the works of someone, or not. Oblivion planes are my favourite places ^^
thanks!

Perhaps the Vibrant Textures section covering the Oblivion Realms does not replace those either... but it might!

Note: These are not hi-res textures, but instead designed with "zero impact" in mind, and simply look different to the vanilla textures.

edit: You could also try Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla (or even just one section thereof, if you liked), either with the vanilla textures, the hi-res ones linked to previously, or Vibrant (or indeed, pick two, or a mix of all three). The normal maps can make an additional difference, in other words.

I would install them in this order: Detailed Normals, QTP3R, QTP3R patch, Hi-Res Oblivion Textures.

Of course, anything else could be added to the mix, anywhere, depending the desired end result. And naturally, doing all this via BAIN (rather than manually or via OBMM) means you can mix and match, change your mind whenever, and have it all be as easy and stress-free as can possibly be.

Um... do you want to know at what stage I would/do install SI graphics replacers? In other words, whereabouts they are (or would be) in my BAIN archive order? If not, I am not sure what you mean, exactly. Sorry!

edit: If it is just replacer names / links you are after, see here -> http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1213147-oblivion-the-beautiful/ for the most up-to-date list so far (that I am aware of).

I doubt there would be any overlap (i.e., "conflict") at all anyway. So wherever/whenever you like, I suppose.

As it happens, I like to use Bomret's Texture Pack for Shivering Isles, because it is high resolution and nice-looking. Oh, and it works well with RAEVWD.

The thing to keep in mind is, if you use Wrye Bash for installation and so on (a good idea!) then, in the Installers tab, you can see exactly what conflicts - or "conflicts" - with other mods/replacers further up or down the list, right down to individual texture file names (for example).

But if you still really want to know where I place these things, sure... (note: there are mods/replacers in between some of these, but they do not affect the textures in question, or - as is the case with UOP things - are detailed in comprehensive guides, such as TESCosi)

Vibrant Distant LOD SI 2048
Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla
Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla - Hi Res Landscapes
Vibrant SI Textures
QTP3 Redimized
QTP3 Redimized patch
Bomret's Texture Pack for Shivering Isles
Hi Res Oblivion Realm Textures

Hm. But I use a lot of littler replacers. Those are just (some of) the really big ones! Have a look at that thread I linked to before - it is absolutely full of great replacers, for all kinds of things. And generally, mods have images (and text, of course) to judge them by, before even downloading. But as for DLC in particular? I know I use one or two "Improved Armory" replacers for at least one DLC (Horse Armor). No doubt there are others. But then, I also only use two DLC, other than SI, and the other is Knights of the Nine (even then, only sometimes do I install either of those). I really have no idea when it comes to all the rest.

World texture overrides is just an archive of a few odds and ends from other packs that I want to give a priority level higher than their pack overall. Some of them I also modified slightly in GIMP. Currently in there:

-A custom super-saturated version of Insanity's red metal Imperial City doors, and also a similarly super-saturated version of his wood IC doors for shops/etc. These look beautiful! The blue metal door is also quite fantastic, but for now I'm going with the red since it matches Darker Regal IC better. I also have a super-saturated version of the blue in there in case I change my mind later though

-Vibrant's IC Palace metal gates, with Bomret normals.
-Regal's IC banners for the gold trim, with RTNMfV normals.
-A slightly colour-shifted set of Koldorn's Welkynd stone shards from his Ayleid ruin pack. The textures beginning with arweldkyndstone*.

Some of these like Mtgr's textures aren't well known but seem to be very nice. Mtgr's textures are usually quite similar to Vibrant, but slightly more colourful. Regarding the thread topic, I don't remember if it was Vibrant, Mtgr, or some of each, but I found that the HiRes Oblivion pack's textures looked almost identical to Oblivion textures in one of those packs, just scaled up.

While many of these overlap, most of them still install at least a few files that for some reason are missing from the others. Additionally, even for the packs which only install a couple of files, they serve as placeholders so that I don't later run across one of these, think it's new, and download/test it all over again :P. That'd be a waste :P.

Also I haven't tested it yet, but I expect in the nearish future to mix in a few IC textures from Imperial City Reloaded v2 :).
