What? We can yield?

Is it true that the player can yield, or a misunderstanding? I ask this after seeing this:

Officially listed changes

Two vending machines in Hoover Dam were facing the wrong way.
Made it so Big Sal/Nero no longer accepts yield if the other is already dead.
Removed Brotherhood objectives when ED-E is given to the Followers.

By yield I assume you mean surrendering in combat? If so, yes. You can do so by putting away your weapon and talking to the attacker. It doesn't always work though, and it can be rather risky at times.

I believe yielding in this game means that when you start combat with an NPC by your imitative, putting away your weapon will make the NPC stop combat too, and sometimes s/he will warn you not to attack again. Same for Fallout 3.

Yielding was much easier in TES 4 since it was mostly melee combat. In fallout its just a huge risk trying to yield to a person armed with a shotgun.

Indeed, if you want to risk yeilding, turn the difficulty slider down when you do it

You can do this reliably at the Megaton Gate in FO3. If you attacked Deputy Weld, Lucas Sims runs out with a rifle and starts shooting at you, but if you holster your weapons he will let you off with a warning and go back into the city.

(As in most cases, this only works the first time.)
