Gamebryo can do real time ladders

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 10:51 am

i love how people are saying that using a ladder is tedious, i bet they prefer fast travel for the same reason...they just like to teleport to places for no damn reason other than being super f***ing lazy! :banghead:
what about the immersion, what about people who like to be sneaky acrobat types.

the only known conflict i can think of is the ai, and that should not be a reason to not implement it. its a reason to do it and then fix the ai!

What's the point of pressing forward to walk?

There's an autowalk option :)

To open a door you don't need to push at the door while holding down the handle with the mouse button, you simply click on the door, it's obvious that you want to open it. Leaving the door ajar might have it's uses sometimes, but there is no point in making the use of doors tedious just for the rare case where you don't want to open it fully.

The same applies to the ladder: You click on it to use it for its obvious application. Making a picnic while standing on the ladder might be useful sometimes, but that doesn't justify making the common application more tedious than it needs to be.

Nicely said. The more things we get to do in real time, the better immersion. It's not like all the players have to use the ladders. They can use levitation if they please ( :hehe:) . But a stealth player will always appreciate a ladder and a rope placed in sensible spots at the right moment.

Not really. A door is not a ladder.

edit: I guess a ladder is more like vertical stairs. So staircase.

What's the point of having to hold the forward button to climb a ladder after you clicked on it? Most boring minigame ever.

I was under the impression that real time ladders would work like other games - you walk into it, and your hands affix and you hold the forward key. Is it really going to be that much more tedious than any kind of stairs or roads? I had no idea you could equate that to a minigame. I see where your coming from, but the reality of it is that the time it would take you to climb a ladder would be minimal, and probably wouldn't affect gameplay enough to justify nixing it.

My real concern with it, is that the Elder Scrolls has come this far, and we're going to leave things the way they were two games ago? Doing it for the sake of being able to would be nice, just to impress the older folks who've had teleport ladders for ten years.

I dont know why Beth has such problems with simple things. Like, I dont even think it is the engine limiting them sometimes, I think they just get stuck in a formula and never change it.

Skyrim is probably the first game in a while where they actually changed or improved some aspects of their gameplay

Since Todd admitted they've been trying to make ladders, I assume we'll get them some good day.
He's not giving me the impression he'd ever give up :D

Yes to ladders, yes to ropes. Yes to more stealth mechanics and more ways of getting into the buildings.
I'd also like transparent and breakable windows, but that's from the future hehe.
