Ok, so i don't understand, why paid servers? Why do people have to pay to make a crysis 2 server? What does the person who buys a server gain in exchange? Does he earn money? No!

So why??

I don't really get what you're playing at.....they have a server, they can play. Nothing on this planet is for free...

Or is this supposed to be a troll thread?
if that's the case:

I'm guessing this is the first PC multiplayer you've played?

Basically servers cost a load of money not only to buy, setup and maintain but the shear amount of bandwidth the server provider has to get from their internet service provider i.e. they have a company that provides them with internet access similar to what your telephone/cable company would do for your home but they require a lot more bandwidth than you would at home as they got to keep a load of servers online 24/7 eating up loads of bandwidth with loads of people playing etc so that costs far more money.

Actually I've been asking myself the same question lately. Why do we pay for Crysis2 server? Why should we?
I wanted to see how the "Quick Match" feature worked. How did it choose which servers to put players who just want to join a mutiplayer game and don't know how to search for servers and let the game choose a server for them.
When a player chooses Quick Match the next screen let's you choose between Ranked and Unranked. Next you'll have the choice of Game Type and that's it, no choice as to Region of the world, and no choice of of official EA server or private/clan server. It doesn't even give you a choice of playing on a populated server or an empty server.
So I tried it out. first server it sent me to was somewhere in Europe, not bad. The server was populated and people were actively chatting but I had no idea as to what they were saying, I live in the US and only speak English and Spanish. I left that server and tried again. The next server was empty. I disconnected and tried 3 more times with different game types and was put into empty servers. The only other (populated) servers that it put me on were EA servers. Basically, EA servers are servers that EA requests server providers to host. These companies are required to enable a certain number of servers worldwide in exchange for being permitted to rent servers. They're easy to spot. If you look on GameTracker most of the top ranked server names end in #05, #20, #009 or some name that ends in - # and includes the name of the server provider and the country location of the server. Examples:
Moscow ForTeam.ru GT#20, FR - Eliott-Ness.com - #009 , UK - GameHosting.co.uk #8 and Chicago NFOservers.com #05.
Just another part of this game that's broke/malfunctioning or only works sometimes, like when it puts you on a populated EA server that could be half way around the world. Who wants to play on a foreign server with a high ping and not understand the language? Who wants to be put into an empty server?
Who wants to rent a server and sit on them waiting for players to join, only to have this game send players to empty servers or foreign servers? Crytek has done a good job at pissing people off. The server owners (renters) not benefiting from the Quick Match players, and the Quick Match players not being put into a quick match with players in it or even a server located in the same region of the world.

Edited:
I tried something else. I used a new account and did the quick match thing in hopes that it might put a noob into a friendly server with players of lower ranks. This time it put me on a rented server (won't put the server name here but it wasn't DDD) and the first thing I noticed was that I was getting killed by a hacker using aimbot. I understand how a noob must have felt if he/she were put into that situation and never want to play Multiplayer again.
Crytek, you are one big Clusterfux

Well, it's the first Multiplayer with good graphics i've played, but if you look at Minecraft, they provide the server software for free.

Oh right you on about making your own dedicated server at home with your own server?

You can do that with the unranked servers as crytek released a free dedicated server pack but not ranked probably due to the fact it can be exploited, you can get it here:
