Can I repair a deleted video?

Post » Mon Sep 12, 2011 7:36 pm

So I recorded some Crysis2 footage using fraps and then I accidently deleted and erased from recycle bin one video with some hilarious scene that I would really like to recover. I already tried a few programs with which I successfully restored the video but each time couldn't play it saying that some codec was missing. The file was basically corrupted.
Do you guys know of any program that can repair videos?

Thx

Yes you can, as long as the video isn't too corrupted, say 80% intact, but note that the repair process may leave gaps ( where the video seems to "jump" or skip frames ) in the repaired video.

The program you need is VirtualDub available here : http://www.virtualdub.org/ . Run the "Veedub" executable and then open the video file. You should get a bunch of warning messages about a corrupted header, index, etc... It should then begin to repair/reconstruct the video. After this is complete click "Save as AVI". After that, your video should be viewable again. :)

jdb2

EDIT : You may also want to click "Scan video stream for errors" and if it finds any then select "Mask bad frames".

Argh, I really thought you had saved my life here but i still get the same error when I try to repair the video saying that the video is of an unknown or unsupported file type.. Guess it's too corrupted now.
Thx for the website though, it'll surely come in handy some day.
