Which version to get?

Post » Tue Sep 13, 2011 3:05 pm

I've had the original Fallout 3 (PS3) for a while now but have only recently found the time to play it. I've just got to Rivet City in the story line. I was thinking about the DLC but to get all 5 pieces on the Playstation Network is really expensive (around £40). I could get the GOTY edition on PS3 which is around £13 on Amazon UK right now, however, I am hesitant seeing as a lot of players complain about the amount of crashes/glitches there are in the GOTY edition compared to the normal edition.

I also have a decent PC and wouldn't mind paying for it again on there seeing as I am also intrigued by mods and such but my save data is on the PS3 so I would have to start over. I have heard things about the PS3 version like it crashes a lot more than on the PC. Could anyone with experience with both the PC and PS3 GOTY editions or even the original Fallout 3 explain the differences between the two and give advice on which version to buy?

Of Fallout?

There are four to pick from.

(Best played in order of release; optionally you can skip FO3; but odds are that's the one most 'new to the series' players would want.)

A choice between standard and 'game of the year'? Buy the game of the year edition, it comes with all of the DLC included.

Not really sure what your asking, but get the GOTY edition for PC if that is one of your options. You should also look into the original Fallout games (fallout and fallout 2) as well as New Vegas, and as Gizmo said they are best played in order of release.

Hi sorry if it wasn't very clear, was just asking:

1) What are the differences between Fallout 3 on PC and Fallout 3 on PS3?

2) Are the differences worth reinvesting in Fallout 3 on the PC? ( I already have it on the PS3 though I am not far through the story yet.)

3) Are there more glitches or crashes in the GOTY editions for either the PC or the PS3 versions?

4) If so which version of the game is the safest, Fallout 3 on PC and downloading the DLC from Steam, Fallout 3 GOTY on PC, Fallout 3 on PS3 with the add ons from Playstation Network or Fallout 3 GOTY on PS3?

1) Fallout 3 PC version is more stable and most importantly has access to 16,000+ user-made modifications that can make your Fallout 3 a whole new experience - several times over.
2) Mods, mods, MODS. Also, console commands (a developer debug tool) as a "god tool" you can use to fix stuff very effectively.
3) No difference, at least on PC. The DLC items are separate from the main product and if you disable DLC for GOTY, you're just playing the core game. Problems in the DLC themselves is another matter, but are mostly stable.
4) It's just my paranoia maybe but I suggest buying a retail copy for PC. You never know when Steam starts charging you money for playing your Steam games! Plus, if this world goes crazy and Steam one day shuts down, you still have your CD.

Also... Fallout 3 on the PC does not nag for the DVD to be in the drive to play the game ~which is a fantastic feature from them that I really admired, until I found out that it was unintentional; but it still works and I really appreciate it.

Return to Fallout 3
