Lonesome Road-Van Buren parallels?

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:25 am

Someone mentioned somewhere that apparently it was planned in Van Buren that at the end, nukes WOULD launch and the only control your character got in "stopping them" was deciding where to send them, then speculated this could be what happens in Lonesome Road. Is this true? Was this really planned for Van Buren?

If we're given the issue of deciding WHERE to send them but unable to stop their launch....holy hell....The cries for "WHICH ENDING IS CANON?!!?!" will increase ten-fold.

I was wondering this myself to be honest... then again, would be an interesting playstyle for roleplayers, expecially for some of the Dark Hero characters some people have. :P

Its in the design docs but much of the elements they used in new vegas that can fron Van Buren were drastically altered, the legion, the burned man, the elements that became vault 22 and a ton of other things so its quite possible the ending is far different especially since the whole plot of new vegas has nothing to do with that of Van Buren.

Well, considering one of the achievements for Lonesome Road is destroying all the warheads in the Divide, I'd guess probably not.

The original design documents, if I remember correctly, your character goes into an escape pod that launches into space as you choose two places in the world to get nuked. This would effect a lot of different ending outcomes and made the game interesting, but of course that is the one default ending.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Van_Buren you can read about Van Buren and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Van_Buren_endings#Space_Station_Destroyed.2C_parts_of_the_world_get_nuked You can read about all of the endings.

Its quite interesting though how much it relates to Van Buren, especially the name Ulysses itself and of course the nukes hitting the wasteland, as seen in 1:11 of the trailer. Whether or not the nukes can be launched anywhere is yet to be seen, obviously.

This DLC sounds so kick ass.

Unique weapons and armor out the wazoo.
We finally learn about Ulysses and the Courier.
The Mojave might get nuked.
ED-E gets upgrades...
