Hey guys, so I just picked up Morrowind today after playing Oblivion for 3 years.. So far it's great! But is there a way to change difficulty?

Thanks

Just like Oblivion, Morrowind has a difficulty slider in the Options.

IIRC the difficulty is the same as Oblivion. Just go into the settings and fiddle the slider

Another way to make it harder is to close your eyes when in a fight :D

I usually never change difficulty setting or pick the lowest one. But after a while on Solstheim I just got so tired of when in a fight just hack and hack and hack and hack and... Well so I had to lower it by half.

Coming from oblivion, you might want to try "always use best attack" to help you win a fight. Also, later you can change this back if you get comfortable. There are other ways to affect the difficulty besides the slider, as well. If these aren't what you meant, we can give you ways to make the game harder or easier without a ton of work. Just drop a message.

I made my game harder by using mods. I don't think I ever once tried messing with the difficulty slider in Morrowind or Oblivion. I'm not even sure what it does. Maybe it adds higher lvl creatures to the lvled lists but I don't know.

In MW, the difficulty is largely controlled by what you attempt. It's less "levelled" than OB, and not "scaled" at all, so you will face both things that are levelled to you, and things that aren't. If you "push" the character and go places where a "fresh meat" character doesn't belong, you will sometimes get your posterior handed to you on a platter. If you "play it safe", you can wait as long as you like until you feel "ready" to take on the tougher challenges.

The slider merely controls the ratio of damage done versus damage taken. It has no effect on spawns, rewards, or quests.

I use the "best attack" option. It saves a lot of awkward mouse movement, and why would you "slash" with a spear?

I can't talk about spears, as I've never used them, but I like to have as much control over what my character does as possible. When using swords and axes I always have that option unchecked. I do not like automation in real life and I don't much care for it in video games either. The more choice I am offered the better, is my attitude.

The way I look at the attack options, I think the default behavior is more realistic.
Maybe you wouldn't *want* to slash with a spear, but regardless that's what would happen if you tried to use it while sidestepping. If you want to thrust, you need to be moving forward or you'd have no balance to control the weapon.

I think the difficulty slider just affects combat difficulty. There's lots of mods to change other things, if you want to go that route. I use an economy mod and some tweaking of my own to make money more scarce.

In some ways the starting level can be too difficult when you choose the wrong quest at first. The more you get advanced the easier it becomes. For me it worked out that way that I adjusted the level of difficutly according to my level in the game (+1 level means +1 in difficulty)
