Lockpicking and Hacking issues

Post » Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:15 am

So today I was attempting to play New Vegas and up to this point all bugs and glitches have been but a minimal nuisance. Usually all it ends up being is a scorpian half submerged in the ground, or a physics glitched body. Then it progressed to partial freezes and ridiculous load times. Now I fear the game has decided to laugh at me and glitch in a way that is partially game breaking, and also incredibly annoying. It first occurred while I was in the Cerulean Robot Building in Freeside trying to get the robot out for the Atomic Wrangler's casino. I walked up to the computer to hack it and ultimately successfully hacked it. Then I proceeded to walk away and pick up the necessary programing for the robot. When I returned I selected the computer to upload the info. Only to have the screen go fuzzy, much like when lockpicking but without the keyhole and bobby pin. I then went over to the cabinet about 10 steps away and attempted to lockpick that. Only to have a computer screen covering up my lockpick so I had no idea, except for the sounds, how I was doing in relation to unlocking it. Thinking I must have glitched the game somewhere between then and my last save I reloaded my last save. Almost 2 whole hours before, only to have the same issue occur. I also reloaded a save from 10 hours before and had the same results. This is incredibly annoying for lockpicking, however, it makes it so reading terminals or hacking is completely out of the question. I would hate to start a game over after having sunk about 20-25 hours into this one. But that seems like the only option, if that will even work. Any ideas/solutions would be great.

I had this same issue. After closing out of the game and reloading back in it went away for me.

Every time I try and hack or pick something all I get is a black keyhole or computer screen. I can still pick locks but I cant see it, I just use the sound and controller vibration to pick it, but the hacking is impossible b/c you cant see any of the words so its like a 1-30 chance of getting it randomly. I tried turning off my system and its still wont go away. It's going to make it really hard to play right until its fixed. Any ideas?

Had the same problem with hacking, not with lockpicking tho. Fuzzy looking screen and can't see any words on the screen.

I'm not too far in the game yet, but my first issue with hacking was in the schoolhouse in the first town. I couldn't hack because of my low skill, so I used Mentats and a Skill Mag to get my skill up enough, and then when I activated the computer it didn't even go into the hacking screen, it was just jarbled letters saying that it was an inactive computer.

Then I reload my save from before I even tried any of that, and when I walk up to the computer, it doesn't even say it needs to be hacked, and when I activate it the same jarble comes up.

I eventually restarted my game for SPECIAL reasons, and when I went to hack the comp a second time everything worked fine.

I also restarted my game b/c of special reasons and it fixed the glitches for about few hours of me playing and instead of a black or fuzzy screen, its not even showing up. (see through computers and locks) So I tried restarting my game again several times and it still isn't fixing it. Im thinking maybe when my xbox cools down it might work again, or at least thats what I hoping. Guess I will try again in a few hours or so. At least im not the only one having these problems.
