Light machine gun vs Automatic rifle vs Assault carbine

I like the light machine gun with extended magazines due to it's ability to keep firing pretty much forever, although I generally play on HC mode, so I hardly carrry enough ammo for one magazine.


I like the Automatic rifle because of it's ability to kick ass, although it requires constant reloading (I hope to god there is an extended mags attachment for it with GRA) and maintenance, and .308 rounds are heavy and uncommon.

I like the assault Carbine due to it's low weight, and the 5mm rounds -10 DT effect, although it still sometimes has trouble killing things.


So which one do you prefer?

Accuracy is what boone or arcade can do well. As long as one of them is still alive I'm good

LMG is accurate enough with Trigger Discipline. And if you're a VATS user, with Sniper and Commando (LMG appears to be treated as a rifle), you can just about snipe with it.

I still prefer Assault Carbine though, for weight and armor mitigation. 5.56 AP is hard to find in large quantities, but surplas 5mm can be bought in absurd amounts.

Personally, I go with the Automatic Rifle. That being said, I play with a recoil mod which greatly reduces spread and turns it into barrel rise. So due to it's power and such, the BAR isn't very good for sustained fire, but in short bursts it becomes quite devastating.

If you have >85 guns skill and >8 Strength, Then the automatic rifle will be awesome!

I like the light machine gun but the 308 is really powerful and accurate if you have above stats.

and if you have the requirements above then get the unique mini-gun, not an assault carbine.

I'm in love with the 5mm's automatic -10 DT. Why not ignore all of these guns and use the CZ57 Avenger? It has an incredibly low spread for an automatic weapon, is lighter then your average minigun and has the highest DPS of any weapon in the game. With the proper perks you can get the DPS to over 500.

Totally smokin crack!! The LMG smokes the Riot Shot gun by a MILE! The LMG smokes the Assault Carbine. Both guns get benefits from the Grunt Perk. Not even a comparision if you have actually used both. The LMG is even better then a minigun, because there is no delay in spin up. No tiny magazine like the Riot shotgun or auto rifle or Assault Carbine. Only two guns are better for a run and gun playthrough in my opinion - the GMG and Mercy

LMG with AP rounds chews up anything with DT in the game. Go take a group of 5-6 Deathclaw with the Riot. No cheap sneak kills - just straight up run and gun. You will take a couple of hits, not with the LMG. Cazadors, Yao Gui, Geckos, Feral Reavers then use HP rounds - the DPS becomes amazing! Who cares about knockdown from Stay Back when they are already dead. 5 HP rounds will drop a Cazador, 8 will drop a Yao Gui.
