OXM article "Shrine of Talos"

Post » Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:56 am

I was reading the article and it got to a part where the character runs into a temple and find a Shrine of Talos and Todd tells them "its one of nine worship areas that can be activated" which makes me wonder is if in Skyrim if we will have to deal with the Nine Divine or Skyrims own pantheon i had been hoping to deal with the Nordic versions of the gods since Alduin is one of them but he says one of nine but theres 12 Nordic gods counting Alduin.
So what do you guys think?
Who would like to Deal with or have around the Nine Divine or The Nordic versions?
I was also thinking Todd said "That can be activated" which makes me wonder if its meant as the shrines were in Oblivion or if the Gods will give us Quests like the Deadric Princes do
Heck they may even have places for both sets ND and Nodic versions

Hermaeus Mora, Mauloch, Orkey, and Shor are amongst the possible exemptions.

Hermaeus Mora is a daedra, not an aedra. Mauloch is an Orcish god. Orkey is a "loan god." And Shor is technically dead.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there's also Akatosh. I'm still not sure whether or not he and Alduin are the same god.

If they do have ND quests, how would they pull off one for Akatosh? Maybe the other Divines are trying to help him with their quests?

Probably the pantheon of the Imperial Cult, since Talos is exclusive to them. Nords aren't really the worshiping type. They're more superstitious than pious, and constructing actual shrines to living gods is just not their style. They're more likely to invoke the gods incidentally (By Ysmir! Thank Stuhn!) than to actually pray to them.

Skyrim has been a province of the empire for a long time. What that entails is that for centuries the Imperials tried to convert all Nords to their worship, and for centuries there were those that resisted :) . That's why there will be both Nine Divines temples AND orthodox Nord temples. And don't forget the ancient Dragon-worshipping sites ;) . This clash of beliefs is going to make TES V very interesting indeed. Expecially since there is potential for mixed pantheons.

Yeah some people say they are the same person but because i lean more to the Nordic Pantheon than the ND i think of them as separate things or just call Akatosh Alduin
yeah those are true although i like Shor even if he is dead and some people think of him as the God of the Dead now i still count him lol

There is no "Nordic pantheon" to speak of. All of Tamriel worships (or denounces) the same entities under different guises.

Wow, I didn't know about this. Thanks!
I love blessings from the gods, I hope they have made them more interesting than "+10 in attribute X for a few minutes" this time around. :)

I'm not that knowledgeable about the Nordic pantheon, but the number 9 make it sound like it's the Nine Divines. That's assuming Alduin isn't really Akatosh...
By Ysmir's beard! We'll have to wait for 11/11/11 to find out. :P

The answer you are looking for is that Talos is also worshipped in the Nordic pantheon, where he is known as Ysmir, dragon of the north.

I imagine then that the temple is a shrine to Tiber Septim/Talos/Ysmir in his Nordic Aspect. Of course, this is just lore speculation, but that's what I would imagine.

In the demo, there was a few statues of Dibella the player can get. I hope we can get Daedric statues and decorate our houses with a mini shrine and get blessed for offerings. Although I think a Daedric shrine quest should be seperate.
