A bug some people seem to overlook...

Post » Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:27 am

I've seen some people post this bug but so far no one has responded...

Is anyone else having an issue with the Educated perk? (+2 skills points every time you level)

My skill points max out at 16 per level-up, with my intelligence at 8, or even 9... and the educated perk being selected. I know the patch just came out early this morning, but I don't see any patch notes yet for consoles...

To me (playing on hardcoe and trying to create a capable character) this is a serious issue. I'd like it to be clear that this issue has been fixed before i re-roll my character.

What's wrong with it? My intelligence is at 10 and I have the perk, and I get 17 points per level up. So your 15-16 sounds about right.

I think if your INT is down due to drugs, or other factors that affects points per level. I got 17 one level and 15 the next. figured that was the issue. wonder if the opposite is true?

yes i have the same issue
the game keeps u from maxing you stats
you will be lucky to get to 80 on a few
their thing are those stupid magazines
yea right in combat i am going to stop and use a magazine
who thought of that very stupid idea?

also combat is very unbalanced
i am over 50 with guns and cannot kill anything with a gun
it seems it shoots right through them
vats is worthless, they should have skippped it in this game
but i can with melee at level 17, i can kill everything with melee
game is very messed up
reminds me of divinity 2

and the music playing the same song over and over
i thought they had more than 6 songs?
same on all stations so i leave it off or it would drive me up a tree
i i ever hear jonny guitar again..... aaarrrggghhh

I've been giving some serious thought about torrenting the songs that were in FO3 so I can listen to them while playing FNV instead of listening to the radio. I don't know, it just svcks that I'd feel the want to do that, but the music in this is bad.

At level 8 Intelligence you get 14 points, level 9 you get 14.5 points and at level 10 you get 15 points. So if your intelligence is at 8 and you get Educated you'll only get 16 points and at 9 you'll only get 16.5. As for the whole thing with the skill point system in this game I am extremely disappointed. In Fallout3 a character with 10 intelligence has 20 points and educated gives you 3 points which was awesome. I miss the free statistic and skill advancements with Bobble-heads and I miss the amount of points you could get with skill books. You can only get a total of four of each skill book in Fallout New Vegas and some are just so well hidden or far off you'll never find them yourself unless you're that lucky. Even then Explosives actually only has 3 books which is super lame. When you count it out you only get an additional 12 skill points in each skills unless you have Comprehension which gives you 16 which is so mediocre that it's barely worth even searching for them. Being able to get 23 skill points in Fallout3 and having the capabilities to max out every skill in the game is one of the many things that made Fallout3 so much fun. You literally could make one character do whatever you want him to do and it was fantastic. I hate what they did with the skill point system in FNV because now you can barely make the character you want to make. In the original Fallout games you could get 20 points from 10 Intelligence and you get get bonus levels from Educated (three ranks for a total of +6). Of course in those games you can get to your skills to 200 in Fallout and 300 in Fallout2 but ranking any of them past 100 ended up being completely useless. I also like and hate the new perk system. Me being a guy who has played the original Fallout games knows about the perk gain every 3rd level. I have to say in this new Fallout first-person shooter games I don't think that the old ways are very applicable here. Fallout3 did it best when they integrated the old ways into the new ways and I for one will have to say I think it is time for the old ways to lay to rest and let the new ways take over. A perk every level, something to give free statistic and skill points, larger number of useful skill books, speech successes based on percentage and not whether or not you have a definite success or fail. Fallout2 applications just don't work in a game like Fallout New Vegas and Fallout3 proved that point. What I think is maybe all this stuff should have been hardcoe only. I also noticed people talking about VATS being broken when it comes to weaponry and I thought this was just a problem I have. I have level 70 Guns and all my guns svck inside and outside of VATS even though they are all repaired and maintained. It would definitely seems that all weapons need a serious damage boost while player armor could use a serious defensive boost and a serious decrease in enemy damage because I don't think a Cazador should be able to kill in three hits and take fifteen before dying. Well, besides all that I love this game. It is so much fun and I really love playing and I just can't wait for the patches to fix everything because I heard of this VATS freeze and it worries me but I'll try that little trick someone pointed out. All I have to say is that the skill point system in this game is horrible and needs a big time upgrading, perks need to be good again, perks need to come every level, the combat needs some fixing in some categories, and speech challenges need to go back to based on percentage [I don't care if they keep it with more stuff than just Speech (which is unheard of because Charisma and Speech were the only things in the original Fallout that governs a Speech check while Intelligence just helped with how good a response you could give) just as long as it is all based on percentage because yes, I do like to reload repeatedly until I get it right). Which brings me to the last thing I have to say which is that Obsidian went far out of their way to ensure that we cannot play the game that we want to play it by deploying so many stupid limitations and restrictions. Love the game but hate Obsidian.

And yes I have to agree all the way that there are definitely too few songs in this game. That needs to be yet another patch they need to put out; add more songs (ones that don't svck). Whenever that [censored] johnny guitar song comes on I switch immediately to the other radio station which I have to say is stupid because you would think that different stations would have different stuff. Fallout3 didn't have a ton of songs but it had enough to keep you from hearing the same one ten times in one quest. Not to mention that the new radio personality is so boring, lame, and sounds like such a [censored]. Three Dog was cool because he was actually fun to listen to and had a lot of stuff to say about you and your quests, general stuff in the wasteland, and etcetera. Then there was Herbert "Daring" Dashwood and that radio program. It would seem that Obsidian is extremely uncreative and unimaginative and likes to rush stuff. And come on already, this is Nevada not Texas or Montana: Stop playing country music!

So educated isn't supposed to add up two more points every time (15 at lvl 4, 17 at lvl 5, 19 at lvl 6)?

No. It adds 2 points, period. So if you're getting 15 points you'll get 17 with the educated perk.
