The Inconvenience of Lucky 38

Post » Mon Sep 19, 2011 8:58 pm

Does anyone else find the Lucky 38 to be annoyingly inconvenient as a "base of operations"? For whatever reason I never storred anything there throughout the game, electing to use a stash at Goodsprings and later on hideouts such as the Brotherhood of Steel, Rangers, and the Followers. One fast travel click, walk in, look at locker. I might be nit-picking, but I really wish you could just fast travel to the Lucky 38 instead of having to go to the North Gate.

I could be c r a z y . .

As soon as I discovered the Lucky 38 on my first playthrough, I thought to myself: "This is an awful lot of loading screens " Which is why I lived in the Novac motel room until Dead Money gave me the ABoS Bunker, and then OWB gave me The Sink. It really is a shame they made it "Companion Home Base" :sadvaultboy:. So no, I don't like The Lucky 38 at all. You're not alone.

Not sure what The Sink is yet but I'm sure its around the movie theatre? Going to play through Honest Hearts first (just finished Dead Money today).... but anyway, yeah, it's like they're asking you how much you really want to use those companions... Do you wanna see those loading screens? You wanna store some stuff all the way up in that bed room? :hubbahubba:

But yeah, I've been using the Brotherhood of Steel safe house for the most part. And I got a stash of weapons and stuff from early in the game at Goodsprings, which I probably need to gather and sell. Lucky 38 is kind of a drag to go to. I liked the house in Megaton and it's convenience.

Oh, you haven't been through OWB yet? Forget I said anything :ninja:.

Megaton home was nice because it was two loading screens from anywhere. You fast traveled INSIDE of Megaton, not out, and then walked a bit to your home. It was a snap. The Lucky 38 home is a whopping 4 (?) loading screens. Too excessive for me, Obsidian.

Everything I need is in Novac. The only thing I stash in the Lucky 38 is companions. I typically avoid civilization.

I'm with Hannibal on this. I went in to meet House. Made a walkthrouh the "home base", and have NEVER been back. I always sent companions back to their starting points. When I had or have companions.

I used it for a while, I'm a real neat freak so I love to have lots of containers for organization. i.e// 1 container for DLC weapons, 1 container for DLC armors, 1 container for unique weapons, another for regular, 1 container for unique clothing items, another for regular, and so on and so on.

THat being said, I have never gone back since DM, and now OWB was released.

I never liked the Lucky 38. One of the first mods I looked after my first playthrough was a good housing mod. And I found one. I've been using it ever since.

I never used the Lucky 38 for housing, as I always set up shop at Harper's Shack since it had pretty much everything I needed right there aside from a clean water source. It is a bit far south, though, so after DM came out I started using the Abandoned BoS Bunker instead. The bunker has neither campfire nor water, so I modded in a clean water fountain and a hot plate and it's been my base ever since.

I have yet to use the Sink as my base, since you have to finish OWB first and by that point I've got more stuff stashed at the bunker than I care to move, however it does have everything you need.

you are not alone... for exactly the same reason i never use it. At a pure guess i would imagine over two thirds of all players don't use it for what its intended.

I've never liked it either, too much hassle. It just takes too long, by far.

Now I use The Sink as my base, although I wish the storage chests and lockers were a bit closer to the entrance, it's a pain to walk there from the entrance when you're overencumbered with loot <_<

I don't ever even use companions(other than my first playthrough), so I literally have never used the Lucky 38 at all. I've stashed things with the BoS before, but that's about it in this game. Megaton is a lot better

I've used the 38 as base in most of my playthroughs. Although I agree it's annoying that u have to go through that many loading screens it's still the place where u have lots of storage and u can endlessly customize it. I enjoy taking special/unique things from the wastes and giving it a place in the 38 to make it feel more like a home. U can also get a workbench which is great for crafting weapon repair kits, so yeah seeing as I have pretty short loading screens I tend to use it as a base a lot.

The Lucky 38 is the best place to call home. Love it! That background ambient music really makes staying there enjoyable.

I use Lucky 38 as base of operations mostly because of companions. But I rarely visit player homes anyhow - looting stuff and taking it home is not my thing.

I think loading screens are 1000x longer on the X-box, at least that's what I gather from Let's Play vids on youtube.
Loading screens aren't an issue on my PC and I prefer practicality, so I use Lucky 38. Also use the Sink for some things because even though it's far from Vegas, it's easy to get to.
Only complaint with the Lucky 38 is holy crap it's dark.

The fewer loadscreens the better due to the instability of the game after a few mods have been added. To be fair lucky38 suite can be good when more convenient map markers are added. But when it comes down to it if you follow the MQ from goodsprings-primm-nipton-novac etc by the time you get to lucky38 my characters back is breaking from loot. Honestly why didn't they make a goodsprings home in vanilla, hell by the time i reach novac my characters hauling more than a pack-brahmin........ Literally those caravans you come across the brahmin are carrying less than the pc is equipped with.

I've never liked it. It's a big waste of space, not to mention that it's in the cesspool that's Vegas. I don't like companions.

Novac is alright.
