Best Mods to start out with

Well, I installed a ton of mods and got overwhelmed by the new content and functions.

Still getting use to Unnecessary Violence, just looking for some friendly gamer advice on a list of mods to try out next. I'm looking for a big list, like 10+ mods.

Then I suggest you do not do this again. At least, not for a while. Not until you are accustomed to a great many mods, of various kinds, and so can more or less guess how well a given mod might work for you, from that point onwards. Instead, in the meantime, try a few mods, and maybe adding one at a time, testing, and repeating that procedure as needed. Additionally, if you are looking to use a large number of mods and/or fairly complex ones, you must start to use Wrye Bash for the installation, configuration and uninstallation of mods, if you have not already.

Without being more specific, all you will get is other people's preferences - and what use will they be to you, given that your own tastes and needs will differ, inevitably.

That said, here is what I posted a while ago, in response to an OP along the lines of "what mods are essential", from memory: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1211132-new-to-the-game-what-mods-do-you-find-necessary-for-oblivion/page__p__18130121#entry18130121

I doubt that my tastes and needs are anywhere near your own, but there you go. I suppose it will prove to be a good example of that to which I was referring, above.

edit: If you have specific kinds of mods in mind, try posting in the Mod Detectives thread instead - it is there for exactly that purpose.

I would recommend not trying to mix overhauls at first either. Most of them add enough by themselves that tracking down problems and/or actually appreciating the changes will be hard. At the most, I usually recommend http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3953 + http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17784 for new mod players since it is mostly scaled like vanilla (use MMMforOOO files that come with MMM). For those (like myself) that really prefer an unscaled overhaul, I would really recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39202 (follow the instructions on downloading and installing the German version first from there) because it covers a lot of bases and cuts out the need for a bunch of mods (10+ easily). But it is a huge download.

Otherwise http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35265 is very small download with a lot of changes and an unscaled overhaul that adds a lot of flavor to the world and uses all vanilla resources but it is also really challenging in the lower levels and despite it's recent versions, it's still something I prefer to play as more of a Thief-type.

Adding in WAC with other overhauls or using FCOM at first is not something I recommend. Even if you set it up perfectly and it runs perfectly stable, you still won't appreciate what they do for your game in comparison.

Thats my opinion on overhauls anyway, which for me atleast one of them is essential. And http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15619 as my leveling mod of choice!
