What are the best archer mods?

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 10:25 am

I'm looking for some mods that enhance playing as a marksman. However im not looking for something that completely overpowers my bow or makes it into some type of machine gun. Is there anything out there for me? So far the only one I have running is :

Archery Rebalance.

Thank you for any input.

Duke Patricks - Combat Archery is prolly the most popular.

Ayleid Arcane Archer(y) also looks very neat, though I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

I'll second Duke Patrick's Combat Archery. One of its many nice features is that it does indeed make archery feel less like modern guns with tacked-on bow/arrow graphics and more like the real thing. (Not that I'm an authority on real-life archery, though I did goof around with it a bit in my long-ago youth.) Another great feature, in my opinion, is that NPC archers benefit as well. They become objects of dread. You can't take 'em lightly anymore.

Agreed that one is the best, but i have played with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39808 and it is very good as well. But the maker does advice not to use it together with DPCA.(Out of caution.)

There's little to no reason to not sign up to TESA. Especially when mod makers such as Duke Patrick choose to wholeheartedly support such an awesome site by only hosting versions of their mod there.

Just do it ;).

I recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25224 for an Arcane Archer type, it should work with DPCA too. But I find it makes you strong enough with any archery rebalance, like FCOM_Archery, Archery Rebalance or OWCND. It lets you enchant any weapon (i.e. bow) with any spell you can cast and it will use your mana everytime you shoot rather than a charge.

I also like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10901 because unlike others, it doesn't touch your Speed, it just forces walk if you try to run backwards longer than a second or two.

Add to that http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9333 which is pretty self explanatory.

And if you are so inclined, a Fatigue mod is essential, I personally prefer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20850 which causes you to collapse when you run out of fatigue and causes an immersive blur when you are low. But it is also highly configurable. Another alternative if you want behavior similar to DPCA, and far more comprehensive: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10925

That's it, highly compatible set of mods too and the most fun.

This is maybe getting off topic, but what started this trend for some modders to host only at TES Alliance and not TES Nexus? Nexus obviously has a number of advantages, so was there some kind of TOS issue or something?

Certain authors use one site over another as a community site and just naturally choose to host there, I think. Would be nice if they uploaded to TESNexus too :cookie:

Downloads are pretty slow, adverts before downloading, and it's a gated community that permabans people for criticism.

Denock and Patricks sound nice. I know this is probably pushing but is there a mod that the camera follows projectiles (arrows). Doubt it but that would be amazing wouldnt it. =/

Remember, if you use Duke Patricks Combat Archery then you do not need a separate Denock arrow mod. In DPCA when you have drawn your bow and decide not to shoot the arrow, then aim straight down and DPCA will denock your arrow. :)

Sorry to mention, but I was listing alternatives to DPCA. Conduit Magic can still be used however if you intend on playing a magic archer.

And there is: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35546

There was another one too, but I can't remember what it's called.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxRtfDykQR4

Also as listed in the description of that video, this is a pretty good and more comprehensive archery overhaul: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11415
Which increases paralyze and knockdown chances, adjusts gravity and fade time, sneak attack and other things..

Spooky got really cheesed off with all the people who did not bother reading his readme, or dissed his mod when another mod in combination was to blame and spooky does not support solving peoples load orders. As he says try the mod with just vanilla oblivion before telling him there's a problem with the mod.
TESAlliance became his choice of site for hosting because as a mod author it offered better control, and a less diverting (read time-wasting) experience for him, where that time can be better spent actually modding instead of answering the same questions over and over because people cant be bothered to read first.

Thats about it really. He pulled his mods from TESNexus and has been a happier more productive bunny since. Thats the same reason I disallowed comments on TESNexus for the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide .. It would have been a constant stream of Installing Wrye Bash and Python questions and more than likely a lot of down repping the guide did not deserve. Alienslof used to do the same with her mods ... Talk to the readme.

Things have changed for the better on TESNexus since with a few tweaks since the site re-design, but once comments have been previously disallowed the author cannot reverse that decision - Its permanent. As is allowing them.

Edit: Uhm, back on topic - I'm a Combat Archery freak too :)

Well, next time i make major load order changes, i will! Though with Skyrim around the corner, that may take a while :hehe:

However the game rage-quits at combat sometimes already, i fear such intensive mods might increase that.
