Compass is optional!

Between this and decapitations confirmed, Bethesda is turning a gray day of mine into a sunny one! :D

You guys are completely missing the mark. He was trying to say that you can alter the opacity of the whole HUD. Meaning if you don't want the compass, you aren't going to get anything else either.

Yep, that's what it sounds like to me as well. Can't play without a health bar, you'll have no idea when you should run from a fight, or when you need to heal, or how much you healed when you do heal.

I just can't imagine playing without a crosshair. Or the bars for that matter.

I want the bars, but the crosshair I don't want. I can aim perfectly fine anyway.
Crosshair is always optional individually as far as I know...

Awesome!
I hope this means they'll give us directions like in Morrowind, or this would be useless.

Well I could always turn off the HUD on the PC. But this is a all or nothing sliders it seems. I would not call this a 'No Compass' slider. Someone may not want a compass, but they may still want to know if they are about dead or not. :glare:

Well I never had a problem with the compass so I'm fine one way or another. Someone will MOD the compass out for the PC anyway, though I know that doesn't help the console users.

Sadly no, because Pete was lukewarm at best on whether or not it was viable to play without quest markers.

This. They gave us disorienting info. We've been told that npcs now give directions, they even show us the way to the quest. And then Pete said sometimes we'll need "help". I hope I can do all the quests without any kind of compass or spell.

Hmmm...that almost sounds .... hardcoe! :D

In my case, I can possibly foresee getting used to having the compass at the top with less opacity by the time a mod is made to move it to the bottom somewhere. I'll be happy no matter what because I love TES.

I have played FNV with no HUD and find it a little bit fun at first but then frustrating. I don't mind some pointers; I don't want to miss things.
