GPU Upgrade Advice

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 7:07 am

So im ready to do a gpu upgrade...i have no problem of performance in dx9 games,
so basicaly its just to jump to dx11 games...
..and need some advice from you fellow nerds ;p

Currently running

Core i7 920
6GB OCZ RAM
NVIDIA GTX 295 DOUBLE PCB SLI

my budget is for the nvidia 570 or an 580...and my current candidates are:

1. MSI GTX 570 Twin FrozR III Power Edition OC (PCI Express , DDR5 , 1280 MB)
Image

2.MSI GTX 580 Twin FrozR II/OC (PCI-Express, GDDR5, 1536MB)
Image

3.Palit GTX 580 (PCI-Express, GDDR5, 1536MB)
Image

Palit is the most expensive...
The two msi's have 100€ diference...

Generally there is aprox 150 euro difference from 570 to 580... so i might as well go for a 580.
Im really confused as to that i from one side i wanted to keep the budget low and wait for the keplers
(my gtx 295 is a beast and has no prob running everything maxed out on dx9),
and from the other side i think of geting a 580 as a long term upgrade.
Will the keplers be running DX12 ? i dont think so.. just a lot better performance...

So if i make any sense.... hit it... ;p

Wassup man, Personally i would go with MSI, mainly because i have never heard of Palit, but i am running a EVGA 560 TI OCed.... and I can run Crysis 2 on Ultra, Tesselation pack and hi-res textures, with no lag what so ever, so i guarentee you be happy no matter which one you pick. But remember more $$$ doesnt always mean better.
Good Luck Vid Card Shopping!

My Specs are :

AMD Phenom II 1100T Black Edition Six Core CPU
8GB Patriot DDR3-1333MHz G2 Desktop Memory
1GB EVGA GTX 560 Ti Max Graphics SC Ed
GIGABYTE M68MT nForce 630a Socket AM3 Motherboard
1TB Seagate Barracuda Low Power Hard Drive
Corsair 600W Builder Series CX600 V2 80 Plus PSU

570 is better value, 580 isn't really worth it unless you REALLY need that extra power
But then I'd rather get a cheaper AMD card even though C2 isn't really optimized well for AMD

For single player at 1080p, a 580 is the only option for 99.9% above 30 fps gameplay, for sub 1080p resolutions though a 560 ti might give you good enough framerates and a 570 would be perfect. To stay above 60 fps 90% of the time you need sli 580's.

For multiplayer the 560 ti would be more than enough.

Whenever I've had any "buyers remorse" about a graphics card it was because I saved money by getting less VRAM.

Thanx for all comments so far everyone...\

@ teh_n00binator ..so to run DX11 and stay above 60fps you need two 580's ?
.. thats sounds a bit too much...

@CH4NCE...but i think VRAM is responsible for storing the framebuffer...so that has an impact..performance wise..

P.s. my choice is limited to the specific posted gpu's for a reason... no need to go in details... ;p

My main dilemma is if the 580 is really worth it.....or will a 570 be just as good in most cases...

GTX 570s are good when SLIed, 580s are good on their own, and yeah 2x 580s is unbelievable overkill for every game out there right now except C2 (unless you do 3D or surround vision).
