Visual effects on enchanted weapons

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 2:39 pm

I know historicaly enchanted weapons do not have any visual effect added to them, but I think it would be amazing if there were.
Like for example, a sword with a fire enchant would have flames swirling around it when its drawn, or one with a frost enchant would have ice forming around it and a snowy aura. Lightning enchant=sparks flying around the blade.
I just think that would be absolutely amazing if that were in the game, it would add a great deal to the feel of enchanted weapons, instead of the regular "Oh this sword looks just like that plain one over there, and if I didnt know better I would say they were the same thing" it will be "This item used to be regular, but now i dont have a doubt that this weapon is more powerful because it has flames swirling around it" know what I mean?

There are mods on the PC that do this.

I will be playing on the X360 myself, so I would welcome this.

Being one of the more hardcoe TES fans, I think the player shouldn't know what a weapon is/does until he gets it looked at or uses it. Like if a sword you found causes people to burst into flames, the player should have the ability to name that sword after what it does. Finding a sword called "Sword of Fire" is lame.

Really? where?
and like say taking a regular iron sword and putting a fire enchant on it, and now its an iron sword that has flames swirling around it.

Im not saying that they would have to be renamed, they can still say "iron sword" but just having the awesome visual on them with the effect.
or they could say like "Flaming Iron Sword"
they dont have to sound like pronouns, just a cut above the rest maybe

I have always wanted this, i had to resolve in Oblivion by making a Spell have my Weapon on Fire, Have Misty Frost on it or just have Sparks going around it.
(No Mods i made those spells on the 360)
it wasn't fun to keep re-casting the spell so i was hoping Skyrim would already have it done :D

Well, the enchanted apparel in the demo video had a slight blue outline. As long as it doesn't look like plastic wrap I'm happy.

Enchanted items actually do glow now. One of the pictures form TGS shows a robe that has been enchanted with one of the schools of conjuration.

That sounds awesome. I for one didn't care for morrowind and oblivion's shiny enchantments. I don't think I'd want anything too flashy though. I'm pretty sure a bow emitting flames would defeat the purpose of a stealth character.

I hope to see more than just the glow from OB. If I enchant my weapon to do fire damage I want to see fire on my weapon like trueflame or hopesfire from tribunal.

You could name them while enchanting, and todd said that in some instances you have to use the 3D view on some items to solve puzzle, like with the golden claw.

In Oblivion, just that glow aura around the weapon was OK, but it wasn't that fancy, of course although it would be sorta out of place for the dollar store toy looking weapons of oblivion to look like infinity plus one sword on fire... http://www.google.com/imgres?q=flaming+sword&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&noj=1&tbm=isch&tbnid=s_Ii8IM_s-Kg3M:&imgrefurl=http://castyoursoulmortalkombat.webs.com/apps/photos/photo%3Fphotoid%3D107487892&docid=pss8wA7TVqvDcM&w=394&h=270&ei=4e13Tpm6B4qitgf3w_CIDA&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=329&page=1&tbnh=130&tbnw=203&start=0&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0&tx=88&ty=87&biw=1024&bih=767

As long as they look considerably better than the visual effects for enchanted weapons in Oblivion. The neon glow often just looked out of place.

The Enchanted Weapons in Oblivion never really Glowed, it was more like an Overlapped Glow that just outlined the most shaded parts, and it was really bothering in Dungeons where there was just an Outline of your Character sneaking around. This time i would like it to actually Glow.
