Radiant Story sounds amazing

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 11:51 am

I remember the hype about Oblivion's radiant AI but it wasn't as impressive as it was made out to be. I have high hopes for this new system, it sounds like it has the potential to truly make the game almost infinitely replayable and never stale, and it's easily the biggest feature I'm looking forward to seeing in action.

The feature that sounds the most promising is how they can tailor the quests to send you to locations you've never been to, forcing you to explore more of the world and giving every location (potentially) a purpose. I think that's a brilliant idea and I hope it works as well as they say it does.

Bethesda has had what? 5 years to improve upon Radiant AI? I'm sure that after these few years, they've gotten a good grasp of their 'Radiant' technology. Hopefully it will aid in diversity among numerous playthroughs. Definately will not end up like Oblivion.

Bethesda's not trying to hype up Radiant Story. Everyone else is. People are calling it "random quest generator" which it is not. You have your human-made quests and Radiant Story takes the NPCs, locations, items, and enemies of that quest and tailors them to your character's actions.

Yeah I'm actually skeptical about how this will play out. It may seem too artificial in practice like level scaling did (among other things), whilst sounding good on paper. I mean, what's wrong with finding a child in a dungeon and figuring out that he was stolen or lost or whatever through mere chance on your first playthrough and knowing where the child is on other playthroughs getting it out of the way early?

What are you talking about? Radiant Story? They explained what it does. I think you are hyped for things that you are assuming, and not things that the developers have said.

And what Radiant Story does is not infinitely complex or revolutionary. You are reading waaay too much into it, and your dissapointment its yours, because they have explained what it is, what they use it for, ect.

They had to cut out Oblivions Radiant AI. Oblivion doesn't have any Radiant AI, so it's not 'it was overplayed' its 'it was cut out'. Aparantly one person would eat someone else's carrot (Or any food) and it would end with the entire town in a huge fight to the death.

Radiant story is different. It can't really get out of control like that at all. It's randomly making stories and quests, not creating a violent chain of carrot-related murder.

That explains why carrots were given weight....

Carrot of Death shouted at Beth telling them to stop stealing its thunder =P

Radiant AI was still in Oblvion. I came across a band of adventurers the other day. They were raiding a dungeon. I though it was pretty cool. It was unexpected.

Can someone explain the main features of Radiant Story? I am still foggy on the subject.

You have a hand-made quest. It has a goal. Radiant Story takes your character's stats, NPCs you've met, the choices you've made, and customizes the quest to your character.

So basically the same thing never happens twice no matter how many reruns you do?

There you go then.
