What's the difference between 2 handed/ 1 handed

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 7:02 pm

Does 2 handed mean every dual wielding combination including magic/swords or only melee weapons?

Does one handed include magic as well melee?

Melee only, weapons that require two hands to wield them, for example greatswords, battleaxes and warhammers. Potentially hand-to-hand fighting is included here as well - after all it does use both hands!

One handed means, weapons that can or are wielded with only one hand, 2H well that one is obvious now i guess!

You can dual wield two one handers, a sword and shield and so on...

One handed = Weapons that you only need on hand to wield. All spells are one-handed.
Two handed = Weapons that you need two hands to wield example : Battleaxes, hammers and Claymores.

actually I never thought of that, I always assumed 1 handed was one handed swords/axes and 2 handed was two handed swords/ axes but now that we can put spells in...my guess is you may be right

You'd use two one handed weapons, but it's its own skill/perk tree, I think.

@Sammu: I heard unarmed is not tied to any skill.

Well that's cleared up one and two handed weapons for me. Now I just need someone to tell me the difference between left and right handed weapons.

Two handed got a longer range.

It's easier to dodge enemy swings with a two hander as you can stay further away and take a step back when they swing, but your 'block' isn't as good as with a shield, so use your feet!

I don't think that's the case. We know hand-to-hand is not its OWN skill...

Oh and to whomever said dual-wielding would have its own perk tree - it won't, dual-wielding damage will be governed by 1-handed weapons, and any dual-wielding specific perks will live in the 1-handed perk tree.

So what should I focus on if I want to use a melee/magic combo.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if there will be 1-handed hammers in Skyrim? I don't think anything's been said, but it's worth a try...

1 handed and whatever magic schools you want. Spells are equipped in a hand, so you'll want to go with 1 handed weapons to free up the other hand. You can't cast magic with a 2 handed weapon equipped.
