Evil Characters

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 12:19 am

I havent played any Elder Scrolls′s Game, yet. I plan to start with Skyrim, since I′m an RPG fan and TES seem such an awesome franchise.

From what I′ve been reading, playing Evil Characters is a bit hard in this game. I understand it will be almost impossible to step inside a town or a city without a guard trying to make you pay for your crimes. Which is good, but, is there any way to avoid this?. I mean, by being stealthed, using the "speech" skill or even bribing someone. Especially if guards are hard to deal with.

So my question is: Is it possible to role-play someone evil and not be confined to live outside cities or towns?

Again, I′m a TES noob. So if you can enlight me, please do so.

Thanks.

They've changed this title so that your criminal reputation is confined to the towns that you committed the crimes in. So if you kill someone in a city and the guards find it, only the guards in that city will have a bounty on you.

But yes, if you plan on running around slaughtering people in broad daylight, then it will be a lot harder for you. Just like it would be if you stepped out of your house and killed someone on the street. You can roleplay an evil character, but just like you would in real life, you need to be somewhat careful about public evilness.

You can't really be morally extreme in any sense in a TES game, which I think defines it. Instead of being "good" or "evil", you can be "helpful" or "a little bit of a c-word".

You never met my bosmer. He killed old people, young people, perfectly lovely and adorable people who were nice to him. outright betrayed individuals and kept the head of one his victim's mothers.

You can be extremely evil in TES. Sneaking helps, using magic helps -frenzy- can make innocent people attack each other.. You get the loot. Nothing better than seeing a woman mercilessly kill her husband with no idea why. Or getting some poor beggar to attack a guard so you can watch them dice him with arrows and swords.

Also, evil IRL like TES is based on opportunity, it's not something people often go out of their way to achieve. You tend to need to be able to get away with it to do it.

I have been a marauder though, didn't last very long. :(

You can play an evil character without making the game too hard for yourself. There are factions for evil people, so it also opens new options for you. However, if by evil you mean psychotic, then yes, the game could get significantly harder. It depends on what brand of evil you plan to use.

Skyrim is divided into 9 regions (give or take). If you're caught killing/stealing in one region, then you'll have bounty on your head in that region ONLY. That already makes playing an evil character easier than Oblivion by roughly 9 times. Also, for you to have a bounty on your head, someone has to WITNESS you doing the action and report you to the authorities, so I suggest that you plan your actions before doing them and if you notice someone staring at you while killing/stealing, find a way to get rid of him aswell.

You can be the most evil bastard in history, if you dont want to be an outlaw just dont get caught doing anything evil, which isnt very hard, kill all witnesses and do things at night.

For example, I know there is a faction called " The Dark Brotherhood ". I intend one of my characters to enter that faction and I believe you have to be evil to do so. I dont know, I was thinking of a thief or maybe a hire blade kind of evil. Not an extreme "kill them all" psycho.

The Dark Brotherhood is an illegal group of assassins. And you kind of have to be evil to want to be part of them.

But don't confuse this with a D&D alignment system. Your actions define who you are here, so if you join the Dark Brotherhood you will be, by definition, evil. You don't have to tell the game to define you as an evil person.

Yeah, the Dark Brotherhood is the assassins' guild, so you have to be pretty evil to get in. :hubbahubba: You shouldn't have too much trouble with the kind of characters you want to play.

You're evil before you receive an invitation from The Dark Brotherhood. To be invited by The Dark Brotherhood there's only one requirement : Kill someone innocent who wasn't fighting you back.

Right. I was more saying that there isn't some character spreadsheet where you check a box saying "Evil".
