Gold Status?

Has Skyrim gone “Gold”?
If so, that means the game will start shipping in about 3 weeks.
Any chance Beth will release the game earlier than 11-11?
If the game is done, they should let us play it.

Er... no. The release date was set as 11.11.11 for a reason. I'd say it's better to have as much bug-squashing time as possible anyway.

It seems a little early to have gone gold. And I'm sure there would have been an announcement if it had. Plus, yes, more time for bug squashing please.

A game doesn't typically go "Gold" until 1-3 weeks before it's release date. Soon, my friend. :tops:

The Caterer they hired for the release party has an expensive cancellation clause, so they are stuck with the 11-11-11 release date even if they finish it early.

11/11/11 is a pretty epic date, dates like these come every century. I'm sure that they wouldn't cancel it to release it earlier even if they finished it 2 months prior to release :P Also, there's no such thing as 'early' when it comes to game releases, there's always more bug testing to do.

With very few exceptions, games are no longer created by a single guy in a basemant. The production costs of games has getting comparable to making movies. That means there's a squad of investors and financiers for practically every major title out there. You can bet on one thing: no game would ever stay idle simply waiting for the release date. Everyone wants to start making their money back PRONTO.

Bethesda developers are not kicking their feet up and lighting up reefers laughing at how all the code is done and now the public has to wait just under 60 days. More likely they're in a crunch mode: desperately squashing bugs and adding polish to a myriad of features.

Lol. Come on, like they would pump 11-11-11 all year and then release it early before all the bug testing is done.

We would've heard about it going gold, so no it hasn't done that yet. I'd give it another 3-4 weeks and then it will go Gold, hopefully with a low bug/glitch count.

There is absolutely no chance of them releasing the game early, even if it went gold today, and started shipping next week. 11-11-11 is a handpicked date by Todd Howard himself, and he aims to stay on target.

Not yet. RAGE just went Gold on the 16th, 18 days before release. NV went Gold 17 days before release. Probably about 4 more weeks for Skyrim between October 20th and Halloween.
