Boats?

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:17 am

Just wondering, if they'll be even ELUDED to in the same way they were in Oblivion and (especially) Morrowind, and considering it's a new engine: any chance they will be transport, the same way Silt Striders aided with fast travel in Morrowind?

There are boats that can take you places, but you can actually sail one.

Alluded to* and I'm sure they will be around, just not usable :\. Which is kinda lame as Nords are huge pirates.

I dont see why so many people want to sail, buy a pirate game if you want that. I understand in terms of lore but that kind of gameplay is not wat im paying for

Wouldn't be too bad to have some ferries or stuff like that I suppose.

I would most likely enjoy shipwrecks, to have some underwater activity, more though.

Sailing would not fit into Skyrim at all, that's why it's not in. At least I think it does not fit.

Because sailing the ocean is like riding on horseback...it's part of the adventure that is at the root of ALL fantasy. Before Tolkien and DnD, there was Beowulf, Odysseus, Sinbad...it represents facing the elements, death, and going to faraway lands.

I loved how in Morrowind, boats (often time Nordic longboats) were used as travel options. While I know we won't get real time boats, I'm guessing it would be possible to have them in addition to the carriages, although they probably would have mentioned them.

From the UESP: "Nords are also natural seamen, and have benefited from nautical trade since their first migrations across the sea from Atmora. They captain and crew the merchant fleets of many regions, and may be found all along Tamriel's coasts."

I would really love them to be a way of transportation, but Skyrim is mostly land. You do not have a huge river or too much sea/islands. You wouldn't have to use it so much, but it would be nice to have it in.
Still, I do not care much because I am a PC player and mods will add that easily.

There aren't any Pirate games are there? Besides PTC.
Lore should be enough to make boats sail-able, but I guess they don't have the resources/engine limits.

that would be awesome to be a viking, but how would it be implemented with only 1 coast which leads off to nowhere.

I don't care about not being able to sail, but it would be really nice to see some ships at sea.

Just give us full-sized boats that we can carry around in our pockets, like in Morrowind!

Now see the problem with that is that the oceans were huge and untameable in those books and much if not the entire story took place on the sea. I would only want them to do a game based on sailing if it was a game about Sloads

I would have liked sailable boats. The static boat in the Imperial city harbor was depressing.

For starters, there are only a few games that are "pirate games", one upcoming RPG which is awesome (Risen 2), Sid Meier's Pirates! doesn't really count, because the boat element is almost nongermane, that game is literally about the pirates. Most other games with boats are strategy, and don't fill the same void an RPG can give.

But boats fit well in RPGs, Two Worlds II did it, and like I said Risen 2 is based around pirates so should have boats.

But I really only wanted them to be there, just like they have been in every other Elder Scrolls game. Being able to sail them alongside the northern coasts of skyrim to hop from port to port would just be a great bonus, and obviously - some great quests could come from such an element, hell, it's not called The Sea Of Ghosts for nothing.

I'm way more interested in water life and what creatures did they put in waters of Skyrim than in boats.
Still, I wouldn't mind them.
But like JVM441 said, Skyrim has only one coast which leads to nowhere and that's why I doubt there will be boats.

I would love to be able to sail instead of swim. Perhaps not own my own boat but maybe steal one, like have boats at every lake owned by bandits that you can steal.
