Kill a Dragon

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:08 pm

I was writing my backstory for my character (a battle cleric heavy armor, mace 1 handed, restoration, alteration, block if it feels right). Anyway, I was trying to keep the endstate in mind for this character, which as I currently understand it is to kill a bunch of big dragons. When I came to what I believe is a fatal flaw at least for me.

How do you kill a dragon without making it feel cheap. Can i hit it with my 1 handed mace, kill it and feel good about that... no. Can I shoot it with some arrows and feel like I could kill the thing... no. Two handed sword... nope... The only plausible way for me to envision a character killing a dragon is with destruction magic.
Anyway, if i go by that logic all my characters need to be destruction specialists. I have never played a straight mage, but i feel like I'm kinda forced into giving it a whirl. Does anyone else think killing a dragon with your straight warrior, or stealthy assassin feels right?

I am excluding the shouts, because to my knowledge you need to consume the soul of a dragon to attain those powers.

An assassin probably won't be the best dragon killer, but Warriors should have no problem.

Oops didn't catch that last line.

I think killing a dragon with an enchanted sword seems pretty on course for the setting.

You know we have dragon shouts right?

Yes, but I understood they were aquired after killing and consuming your first dragon.

It depends on how strong a character is. If they are not at a high level, I would say no. And since acrobatics is out, I am even more inclined to agree with your reasonings. A high acrobatic melee character or even archer could take on a dragon in a purist's roleplay.

My character will rely on arrows, destruction magic and thu'um to fight dragons. I might do some finishers with a decent blade if I am confident enough to close the gap on an injured dragon.

My suggestion for your battle mage is to also focus on elemental shields to ward off breath attacks, since no one will ever be able jump or roll out of the way anymore.

Seriously though, of all the times they could get rid of acrobatics and athletics, they do it when dragons appear. lmao

You might be right, I just keep thinking about how the dragon swooped down and basically toss the giant 100 yards in one of those preview movies. If he can do that to a giant I wouldn't imagine me hitting it with my enchanted mace would do more than piss it off.
