Bethesda: How about releasing the character creator early?

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 6:40 am

Well, the buzz is here. Only a few weeks remain before launch. But I think the buzz will really resonate if the character creator was released early. I know I will spend maybe an hour or more making my character. Having this tool out early will enable people to experiment with what they like before having to commit it to the game world. It also can be used as a compare function on the boards where people can show their characters and maybe even develop a method to tweak settings to display famous characters..

So this could be a win-win. Bethesda generates more fan fare with the released creator, and gamers get to tweak their characters to have ready right from the start. I know Bethesda doesn't do demos, but I don't think I see a down side to this request for alll consoles/systems.

Assuming I missed those, what was the prevailing reason why something like this couldn't happen?

It's only a few weeks now. Stay strong, I'm sure our patience will be rewarded greatly.

Wish they'd do it. I don't know one reason not to. Dragon Age didn't have any problems...

I believe it comes down to time and money. Their focus is on that release date now. Worry not though the marketing department will give us more goodies as November approaches.

Probably the reason is gamesas doesn't want to release something like that...

Can it even be easily made a self-standing application? I don't think it can be done unless you intend to do it since early development stages. And it's a waste of resources that would be better invested in the game itself.

Are you serious. Next it will be release the map without any life in it so that we can get our bearings before the game comes out.

Pulling the character creator out of the game is probably more trouble than it's worth to them.

Thats a bummer, ahh the pressure of getting the character right the first time.... But there is hope that Pete may not know this is in the works. Like the decapitation perk.

Pete is VP of PR. He decides what media gets released and what doesn't. Him not knowing about a specific perk is one thing, the entire character generator being released is another. He also said "that's not how our engine works" in reply to releasing any kind of demo.

My internal clock is out of whack. A week is like a day to me.
It probably also helps that I'm preparing for Christmas extra early this year so I don't have to go through the stress of holiday shopping.
Besides, 7.5 isn't that large a number.
