Skyrim DLC - 30 Day Advance Window for Xbox

Wait a sec...you're saying that everyone doesn't have a multi-thousand dollar beast of a machine to play games on? I totally agree with your statement, by the way. I think income is a major factor in the choice for which gaming platform(s) a person uses.

For instance, I have a gaming PC because Ive been accustomed to playing games on one since long before the newest gen consoles came out. Once they came out, I got an Xbox and PS (skipped the Wii). Haha, actually, initially I was going to get a Wii because there were a few games on it that I wanted to play, but with Nintendo's inept launch, I couldn't find one anywhere, so I got frustrated and got an Xbox360 instead. With the Xbox360 and PS3, I no longer feel the need to get a Wii. Oh well, Nintendo's loss. But anyway, if I was a bit more limited in my finances, I would've gotten a console instead of an expensive computer.

Even ignoring the income issue, many people will buy a cheapy computer for just web-browsing or email or downloading porm or something. And then buy a console on top of that for their gaming needs. It's easier for a parent to just buy their children a console for entertainment as well...more cost effective.

And I still think the whole platform wars thing I see on these forums is stupid, and both sides are guilty of contributing to it and drawing it out ad infinitum. I really don't understand the immature need for a person to feel better about themselves by putting someone else down.

Most people take the price of gaming PC as (you need to buy a pc every time a game comes out. We have to keep in mind the Xbox runs for 200$ now (approx) a PC with 512 MB of ram and a 5 year old video card and processor would not be much more than 2-300$ either.

But I agree, the whole war is pointless. no point in following a product religiously enough to fight for your choice. If you believe you've found the product that suits you best, then you have no need to argue for it. if you want to swap from one to the next, consider it a comparable price no matter from which, to which you go.

Yeah, I usually buy something in the "sweet spot" for my PCs...something pretty close to the best, but not the best. I'm at the point where I have to at least update my video card however if I want to play at the highest settings. At least computers have gotten a lot cheaper. I remember my first computer cost something like $12,000 which was an IBM PS/2 (80286). Nowadays, you get a whole lot more for a lot less money. I got this one about 3 years ago, so it's getting close to the time for me to decommission this machine and repurpose it as a multimedia PC for my entertainment center.

I'm looking forward to the next gen of consoles. :)

The other platform wars I despise is the Apple vs PC or Apple vs Android, etc. And I dislike it even more since I have a number of friends and acquaintences who prosthelytize about Apple products every chance they get.

The only thing that is bothering me with consoles is that the crappy hardware forces game developers to confine the game around it. I can only imagine how crazy good looking Skyrim could have been if they didn't have to develop it for 7 year old POS hardware! Think about it! 7 years old! who today would even consider using a computer that is 7 years old! Yet it still today dictates the "edge of technology" and "we can still squeeze more out of it" that is plain embarrassing and nonsense! I'm sorry.. They are not squeezing more out of it. They are just today using what they could have been using from day one 7 years ago. But didn′t because they where lazy and because they could then spend 7 years "perfecting" something that could have been perfected from day one. But how would that look, If a game like skyrim was released 7 years ago. What would they do graphics-wise then for the coming years?
no no.. its a lot better from a business stand point to drive technology forward as slowly as physically possible. Because then you can release games with several sequels and only have to put in a minimal effort updating graphics, gameplay and level design. All game developers LOVE the consoles for this. Its as simple as that!
So this is why (in my opinion) real PC gamers hate consoles. The consoles are holding back all possible graphical development. But nobody wants to admit it because they are all making tons of money from outdated hardware and ignorant consumers.

re: "Why are the DLC coming for X360 first?"

Microsoft has lots of money, and likes to bribe people with it.

mods are meh... i dont use them. im sure some of you do, and love them. but i intend to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

I like to play the games as they were "meant to be played" as well. And considering that the game developers put a mod activation function in the default launcher for Oblivion & Fallout 3, and released robust and powerful mod tools (for free) to the community? I'm pretty sure modding is something they "meant" to happen.

(That said, I like to play the games unmodded the first time. Otherwise, how would you know what mods you'd like to try? :D)

Why do these threads always turn out to be console wars.

I honestly don't have any problem with any platform what so ever.

Why do [censored] have to belittle other consoles.

BRAIN NO COMPREHEND

Yeah, if using creating and using mods wasn't meant to happen then they wouldn't include the ability to make them and use them, nor give access to the tools to make them like the construction set.

You do not need a multi-thousand dollar beast of a machine to play games on, no. With $600 and carefully selecting your hardware you can easily buy a machine that can max out everything but 2 or 3 games. Take a budget GPU card for example, currently the 460GTX. Beast of a card and doesn't cost that much. I can max out everything I throw at it (with the exception of The Witcher 2 which I had to turn some options off) and I expect Skyrim to run almost maxed out @ 1680x1050 resolution. My CPU isn't even that great, almost 3 years old now : Core2Quad Q8300 @ 2.5Ghz. In 2008, I had the 9800gt, again beast of a budget card and doesn't cost that much. You gotta do your search before buying a PC and not just go to a store and ask for a gaming rig, I advice everybody to buy the parts separately.

I doubt it's about bugs testing. It's all about Microsoft.

^this....... I use 360 and agree that the timed exclusive is B.S. pc and ps3 fans should not be getting shafted, but if the world was fair.....

Sorry, I was being sarcastic about the multi-thousand dollar comment. And not to the person I was replying to, but to the general people engaged in the platform wars in the topic.

I used to build my rigs, but I no longer do that...exactly. Nowadays, I'll but a Dell machine with the parts I want that aren't a super ripoff, and then buy the lowest cheapest components for the things that are a ripoff or things I know I'm going to swap out and just buy the parts piecemeal afterwards. I got tired of troubleshooting quirks in the hardware that sometimes crop up when you assemble a system from scratch. At least buying from Dell, I can call someone and say "HEY! It's broken. Come fix it." :D

Because it's handheld? Not a lot of memory storage? And MAYBE because it's Nintendo?

Only a part of it is handheld.

And for the rest, I wouldn't brag so soon. I don't expect a lot from the guys who thought 512 mb of RAM would be enough.

snip

I've had my PC for about as long as my xbox, and when my xbox breaks or stops reading discs even when they are new and i can't afford to buy a new one, i play my PC (which i spent about $600 on and has outlasted 2 xboxs so far) so not everyone just buys new stuff for their computer when it comes out, some people treat it just like a regular console, they buy it to have fun. There is no reason to believe one is better than the other because if one of them was obviously better no one would use the worse ones....unless its a wii...lol just joking with that last part ;) but honestly i enjoy my Xbox and PC, can't afford a PS3 but i want one still. The only reason people on here toss out hate for other platforms is because they see everyone else doing it and get defensive, which is why i had to try really hard not to pick sides even though i use whichever platform seems best for the type of game i'm playing.

P.S. I'm not saying that i believe consoles break faster than PCs it's just how my luck went.

lol, it looks like we did the same thing in terms of cost :)

Well it turns out it was enough, and still is for the time being. Over a 100 million console user's agree also.

And by now 3 or 4 major software developers disagrees and are bothered with it (Ubisoft, Id, Bethesda, DiCE...and probably more). Which is already a lot although it doesn't seems that way.

Don't dare to compare the technical knowledge of the average console user with the one of game developers. Please...

Yeah, I think we can close this topic. Way too much elitist views, lack of respect for other member's opinions and general platform bashing.
