Making NPCs Essential

Post » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:13 am

Is there a way, through use of the console, to set NPCs as essential? I've looked through the UESP list of commands, and did not find anything, but I was wondering if there was still a way. Thanks for the help.

SetEssential BaseID #

Where BaseID is the.. Base ID of the NPC.
Just set the number to 0

Sure.

You need their BaseID (the easiest place to get that is probably the UESP wiki-- if you google the name of the NPC, the odds are that the wiki link will be the first one on the page).

Then open the console and type in:
Setessential BaseID 1

And that'll do it.

*Edit* You have to set the last number to 1-- not 0. 1 makes them essential, while 0 makes them not essential.

Yep. I usually use the UESP for finding information on all my Elder Scrolls needs.

Thanks for all the help. I wanted to make Baurus and Jaufree essential because they keep winding up dead.

If you're using OBSE, you can use OBSE function 'http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/SetRefEssential'. It requires RefID, not BaseID. So it's easier to use 'SetEssential', because you can get RefID by clicking on any actor.

If you are using Obse then this might be worth checking out.

Why don't you just give them more health, regeneration and possibly increasing their armour?
