Talking Dragons

Post » Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:18 pm

In the third of the three HD trailers Bethesda released from their Demo, the fire dragon appears to talk while breathing fire

Jhoo Shaaaa....

Anyone hear that?

I wonder if the talking will become more complex as you advance

That's because Dragons use Shouts just like the Player does

you mean yol toor? It's the dragon language for fire breath. It was confirmed that you would hear the dragons speak the dragon shouts ages ago. :D

Yup,they do actually talk. :)
I noticed it at some videos before the actuall 3 part demo.

Don't forget that the powers the dragons are using (fire breath, slow time..) are being used by shouting. ;)
In order for the dragon to breath fire,he speaks a shout. The fire breath shout.
Perhaps we might listen "Fus Do Rah" too at some point from a dragon also!

The greater Dragons back in my D&D days could talk. Even cast spells. I wonder if we'll encounter any of those in Skyrim?

Just a quick question.. Are dragons intelligent? I mean like human/divine god intelligent? Or are they simply just animals?

Yes. If you noticed, though, the words were only said like a second and a half after the flamethrower breath was activated. Kind of weird... considering that you have to shout the words for the magic to happen.

Great link. Off topic, but it reminds me of the days when I used to watch Dragonball Z

I think the hearing dragons speaking their own language is beyond awesome.
It sounds so, ancient, so powerful and mysterious. It gives me shivers down
my spine every time I hear it and I want to hear MORE of it...MUCH more...

Yep, I think Skyrim's dragons will be similar, they're intelligent and can talk, if maybe only to the PC or other speakers of the Dragon tongue. Not sure if they can cast normal magic besides shouts, but they do seem to have elements that correspond with their breath weapons as we've seen a fire dragon and ice dragon so far. I wonder if Bethesda's dragons have a liking for treasure...:D

The dragons use shouts as well, so you hear him say "Yool Tor Klien"

Not "Yool Toor" because it is just a breath of fire, "Yool Tor Klien" is the "flamethrower" version

Awesome. That would make for some interesting battles. I also seem to remember that not all dragons were evil. In fact some would even have a favorable allignment (Lawful Good).

Oh well. I'll have to wait just a little bit longer to find out.

To the dragonborn maybe? or other dragons trying to take his prey? Yes I think yes dragons need to express their anger too!

I really cant wait to talk to some dragon NPCs, not kidding. Imagine the voices they'll use.

Todd already said some of them are not evil/attacking and are part of the main quest. Possibly a dragon ally (we know theres a shout to call a dragon or command it)

Only thing with the dragons using the shouts is that they "shout" them near the end of the powers :sadvaultboy:
