You can get a lot out of it with survival. I decided that the only food I would eat would be animals that I have killed. So I go hunting, for gecko or get scorpion glands to get Ruby's famous casserole. If you regulate you self, the more strict you are the harder it becomes. So I don't use any chems, I only use food and healing powders I make. I never pick up caps from lockers, I rely on selling hides to get caps and spend it on water.

As I said regulate your self and you'll find it more enjoyable.

So in english

It does not matter you can make it matter with imagination or ignoring parts of the game.

Some of the most powerful aids and combat buffs, are from survival.

Not only does survival unlock the most powerful health and food items, what is does is allow you to gain more healing/FOD from less. You will have to carry less foodstuffs to heal/sate the same ammount.

Also, don't forget the survival based perks.

-gunny out.

I thought I was writing in English. Anyway I was merely suggesting you can get as much out of it as possible, yes you can live of junk food and you'll be fine. But I was saying if you use survival you get to make foods from different ingredients, health potions and animal hides. As I was saying on my game the only food I eat is stuff I make at a campfire. I makes the game more fun, for me at least. I don't pick up caps from lockers or dead bodies, I try and make my own ammo rather than relying on buying it. If I pick up everything I become king of the wastes very quick, so I like to make it harder for my self.

Survival is more useful that medicine, actually.

Deadly poisons and higher hp granted from eating irradiated meat? Win.

Although I've never put a single point into Survival, its probably quite a good skill to have. I just find that there are so many other skills that take priority over it - your main weapon skill, Speech, Lockpick or Science, Repair, and maybe Sneak or Medicine. Even Barter is arguably more useful.

It's not too useful as the penalties from the "needs" aren't all that harsh and they are easily "healed", but do find that it makes inventorymanagement slightly easier as the beverages get bigger and bigger effects. I came to appreciate having points in it most in Dead Money where I wasn't really stacked up at any point.
